What do you mean the 2014 base does not have leather seats?

I posted these photos on the FJ forums to get the community's opinion. One thing they were concerned about was the amount of plastic on the center portion of the bumper that could take significant damage with a low speed collision.
Hey could you post a link to the forum thread you mention, I would love to read what FJ fans have to say?

The GX 460 is now a $40 thousand-ish vehicle ... it was a $50 thousand-ish vehicle. Lexus may sell more of them by going downscale, but is it worth it? One thing is certain ... with those low bumpers it won't be going off-road!

From everything I am reading, the price reduction is to get the starting price under $50k. It now starts at $49,995 which is much more competitive than $53,795. The M class starts at $47,750 and the JX starts at around $42. It can be argued that the RX competes with the M and JX class but in all honesty both the Rx and GX overlap with the M and JX with neither being an exact competitor.

With low sales of the GX, you can attribute this to a number of factors, body on frame for whatever its worth, V8 only, and worst of all is the high starting MSRP.

as for resale? Well Toyota has reduced prices many times before on a new release, it has not caused an issue before.

Looks like they did most of the upgrades they originally should have had on the 2010. LED headlight fog and DRL, Outside temp location, Enform radio, blind spot and entry price. The only thing they missed changing was the stupid location of the volume and tune ****. They did away with the sliding door to reveal a few buttons but the control ***** are still vulnerable to the wondering knee and leg. I have to tell passengers all the time who cross their legs to watch out for the tuning dial or say," hey you just changed the channel with your knee". That is the most hated part of my GX and would tempt me to get a 2014 if the problem were solved....waiting on 2017 I guess. Other than the radio ***** I have loved the past 3 years with this truck....I do not like the Euro clear tail lights on the 2014 GX or 4Runner. Is this 2003?

Here you go: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...xus-gx460.html

Pretty much the general consensus over there is that they like the vehicle except for the front end.

The new base has Nuluxe seating, not leather. The old base looks like the new premium model and the old premium looks like the new luxury package.

That is what I was afraid to hear. I find it unacceptable for a vehicle that starts at $50k to have fake leather seats.

I don't have a problem with no leather per say but fake leather is just wrong. I would rather have the base model come with cloth seats that are heated instead.

To be fair when I was pricing out a Mercedes GL I think some sort of leatherette is standard. For the '14 base GX to be cheaper they had to cut some costs. Looks like the base has manual 3rd row seating as well. While the price is lower you get less.

You're just going to have to get over this, Pat is 100% right. This is what all the competition does, what the market is accustomed to and will accept. There is no evidence that the market will accept cloth seats, but there is ample evidence that they will accept imitation leather...because MOST Mercedes are sold with MB Tex, many BMWs are sold with Leatherette. The NuLuxe is way nicer than either of those.

On top of that, Lexus is adding it to their cars and REDUCING the price. The goal being so that they can say the car starts where the competition starts, not try and explain why it costs more. Pretty fair. If they were replacing leather with NuLuxe and holding the price line I could see your beef. But you can still buy a leather lined GX for what you could buy it for last year! If you don't want the base package...buy the premium package.

The only place I find the NuLuxe frustrating is on the IS F Sport where you cannot get leather at all.

This is awesome! The styling updates are great.

If you compare apples-to-apples, a comparably equipped 2013 GX460 with Nav, Comfort plus, and park assist would be about $58-59k, whereas the 2014 "Premium" has these standard for $54K. Nice!

The 2014 Premium Package is a great value!

this is awesome. i would definitely consider the base '14 with just navigation as the added option. i was cross shopping the new MDX, RDX, but with the newer updated design and lower entry price (i don't care much for real leather seats anyway), GX is definitely worth a look.

Why, it's the same engine and transmission. I hope the F Sport model if they decide to release one will have an 8 speed transmission. Otherwise, I will purchase the luxury model.
