how to reset maintenance message in gx460

Tire rotation as already mentioned. Also, some local dealerships program more frequent service intervals to "sell" (unnecessary) services. This is predatory in my opinion, but this is the world we live in. Lexus dealerships are not above this practice.

I think they go cross; two front cross to back and back up to front but don't cross. At least that was how America's Tires rotated mine.

This is correct ... radial tires should always continue to rotate in same direction. I do not include the spare tire ... no real benefit given tires should be replaced as a set or by (axle) pair ... so the including the spare in rotation only messes up the left side and right side wearing at the same rate.

I don't rotate in the spare either. I always thought for 4wd (and rear wheel) it's cross front to back. On my mini van and Camry it's straight from to back on the same size.

Here is a well represented writeup by Bridgestone on tire rotation ...

While I would have been saved from buying a whole new set of tires on my old Explorer (another story) had I rotated the spare in... I haven't rotated the spare tire in on my GX. I'm not sure about Torsen diff damage from running dissimilar tread depth on the GX but this was a surefire way to burn out the Borg Warner viscous coupling on my 5.0L AWD Explorer. I just swap tires front to back..back to front on each side on the GX.

how to reset the 'maintenance required soon' message?
I did the reset with the 'A' odo and it cleared as usual, but I still get a message at start up. Only have around 12.5K miles.
Does the dealer have to reset this?

Are you talking About the message that shows up on your infotainment screen or on the speedometers middle display?
I only recall a pop up on my Navi screen that had service reminders. There should be a button on the screen that says clear all or do not display to dismiss it

Fixed it, you have to hold the odo button down until it says its reset, I was letting it go before it was finished
