I'd wait a little bit longer when more of the 2014's start showing up on the lot. A base 2014 costs $49k, so that should pull prices on a well equipped 2013 even lower. Wait a few months if you can.

Thanks. Where can I find the pricing on the 14's? Lexus website only has 2013 in the build your own section.

Considering the huge price drops on the 2014s, 2013s have to be adjusted accordingly. Tough luck for the sellers/dealers.

For that car? $45,000 tops.

I have dealers offering $4000 off $60,000 2013 stickers....that comes out to $56,000, which is more expensive than a 2014 with the same features and updated styling! Lame! I don't feel sorry for the stealerships one bit, but they're kind of in a jam with pricing, and I think that's affecting deals all the way around....

Or did they really figure out how to build the car for 10% less?

If you look at what options/features you get in each 2014 model, there is not that big of a price difference. The base model at $48,085 looks to be much cheaper but look at what you do not get!

I guess you must be rich, because according to the official Lexus Pressroom, there is a $4000 difference. That's "big" to me! Compare apples to apples.

You're looking at an MSRP of $4000 less for a 2014 model versus a comparably-equipped 2013 model, right off the bat!!!

Go price a 2013, with Navigation, Park Assist, and 3-zone climate/rear heated seats.....then price a 2014 with the Premium package, which includes these. $4000 difference all day long!

There are also other factors. Yen to dollar was very favorable earlier this year, and I'm sure Toyota/Lexus locked in a nice exchange rate contract at that time.

Also, yes, as a vehicle ages, it becomes less expensive to build. Most people do not understand that a vehicle's development costs are amortized as a huge project/sum. They get hung up on stupid lies from car manufacturers that whine "we lose money on such and such car".

A car company does not say, "this car costs us $30,000 to build, so let's charge $40,000"....it's more like, it cost Lexus $250 million to develop the GX from the Prado (I'm just making that number up and using it as an example). They normally like to recover their development cost over the first 3 years of production. So the best way to look at it is that in it's first 3 years they're recovering their total project cost, and in the last 2-3 years (or longer for vehicles that have longer life cycles), the cars basically just print pure profit.

So yes, between the favorable yen and the current stage of the GX lifecycle, Lexus decided to do a rare move and make a tiny bit less money (they're already making $$$$ over fist on the GX and LX) in hopes of increasing sales and moving some more volume. Or simply give the appearance of charging less and keep negotiations/discounts to a minimum as you suggested.
