... no wiring necessary ... ALL GX460's already have wiring with end-plug connector ... so Towing Receptacle is plug-n-play in terms of installation.

Actually this is not 100% true though. We currently have 4 GX460s in the family.
  1. My sisters' 2016 and 2019 came with OEM hitch so the End-Plug connector is mounted to the hitch itself.
  2. My 2015 didn't come with the OEM hitch but I have the end-plug connector pre-installed so it is ready to use. I installed the OEM hitch and needed to remove this end-plug so I can use the end-plug that comes with the hitch which will be mounted to the hitch itself.
  3. My brother's 2014 didn't come with the OEM hitch AND it did NOT have the end-plug connector neither. Last time he used my trailer and we discovered there is nothing to plug the trailer receptacle in. I then gave him the end-plug I removed from mine when installing the OEM hitch
Scenario: the 2014 is base with Navi and upgraded audio and he bought it used (25k miles) so Maybe, just maybe the vehicle came with the OEM hitch but the owner Removed it and also Removed the end-plug connector? This is just a wildly guess.

Default OEM hitch

Although I had already installed a Curt hitch on my 2012 GX (took about 15 minutes), I decided to go ahead and buy an OEM hitch, since I found a pretty good price on one. After receiving it, and looking through the installation threads on here, I decided to just go ahead and pay UHaul to do it. The guy had a bit of trouble with it (had to re-read the instructions), but finally got it on - roughly 1.5 hours. For $65, I think it saved me quite a bit of aggravation!
Anyway, as others have pointed out, it ain't real pretty, but it does bump up the towing capacity from 5,000 lbs to 6,500 lbs. I don't need that much towing capacity right now, but you just never know...maybe I'll upsize my boat one of these days!

I have the Curt look a like hitch and not the full OEM one. I used it for bike rack and cargo tray and such.
I’m thinking of getting an 14’ inflatable boat with a trailer and maybe a 20hp outboard. The total weight probably less than 1000lbs, do you guys think it should be fine towing the boat with this hitch?

IMO: You should be more than fine with that weight and your existing hitch.

Absolutely! My 18' bowrider weighs 2500 lbs, plus 700 lbs for the trailer, and have had no issues whatsoever..

Default Factory hitch — quick question

Thinking of picking up a CPO GX in the next week or so and am looking at a couple without hitches.

I’d like the full-on class4 hitch from Lexus. I’m looking around at online parts sites and some say “not available”. I just came out of an Audi SQ5 where Audi had wiped hitches from North America so I’m a little gunshy.

Any comments on availability?

And, any DIYs on the factory hitch? Does it comes with everything I need? I’m familiar with installing hitches fwiw.

Lookign forward to hopefully having a GX in the family again soon.

Thanks!

Lexus hitch is easy to install from an attach standpoint, just need another helper or a floor jack to position while bolting into place. All GX460 models are pre-wired with an end connector, so a simple plug-n-play into the trailer connector supplied with the Lexus hitch.

thank you, and we haven’t heard of anything like Lexus discontinuing these things, have we? Still readily available?

The hitches are still available. There were some supply issues in months past

Default Original vs Aftermarket Trailer Hitch

I just bought my first lexus gx460 (pre-owned 2020) and deciding between original lexus trailer hitch or getting an aftermarket from uhaul. Brand is Curt CMF 13043. Any risks with getting aftermarket? The originals are $900 cad while curt is only 270 bucks. Only need for bike carrier. Welcome anyone’s thoughts and considerations?

The only risk is that it will not have the same towing capacity as it would with the OEM one. Look around for a good price for an OEM on as they def vary from dealer to dealer.
