Spoke to my dealer today about it, nothing yet. He claims it is a production issue.

I did call the dealership and was told they are redesigning it which I find crazy since it’s been around for 12 years.

very odd. My dealer did say something about re tooling, so maybe there’s truth to that!

perhaps the change is in anticipation of the next generation GX. Seems odd to halt production midway unless there was error somewhere. Hopefully soon, my GX should be here in the next month and sure would like to have a hitch, or at least light at the end of the tunnel!

I spoke to 2 different dealerships parts departments, and was told it was undergoing a “safety inspection”….so not sure what to believe. Hopefully it’s back in stock soon.

In September Nissan also had issues with not being able to deliver hitches on their new Frontiers. I'm not sure if Nissan resolved the issue. I suspect it is an issue with sourcing the steel. If it was a safety issue I think Lexus would have advised those with the hitch to not use it until the problem is resolved.

Since it does not appear to be only Toyota/Lexus impacted, is there the possibility a certification requirement changed SAE, ISO, AMECA/VESC. A change to certification could be the delay while manufacturers redesign and wait for testing to meet standards. Just a thought

Got a call back today. Basically, it’s not available and no idea when it will be. She couldn’t give me a reason either.

Default Frustrated no OEM hitch available

Just traded my 2008 GX470 for a 2022 GX460 expecting the new model a Lexus tow hitch was available. No luck, dealer couldn’t give me any info if a hitch was available or when. In the mean time I installed a Curt hitch to hold me a over until Lexus gets a hitch. Contacted Lexus via email and they didn’t give me much help or hope that an OEM hitch would be available. How can they sell a vehicle with all the features for towing but can’t have a hitch available? I can’t believe that they can’t source a vendor that can build an OEM hitch to Lexus specs.

Same info I got when I emailed Lexus. No information, no date when available

I ordered a hitch online from a seller that physically has them in stock. Even with the high shipping cost I figured I’m gonna pay for a Curt then swap out so it was a wash. Called yesterday to get the status on shipping, and the lady said they have 40 hitches they can’t even ship to customers because Lexus said not to. Makes me think it’s a safety thing. This is crazy.

It baffles me that Lexus could screw up a hitch that has been in production for 13 years

Can you share with the rest of the class? I've been trying to get a hitch since mid-October.

Thanks,
It’s OEM vehicle parts, but they can’t ship anything. So you can order it and wait, or just wait and get them from a dealer. Crazy.
