Bringing this post back up. First, I also live in the Orlando area.

I'm looking at a 2011 CPO that does not have a hitch. I would be buying the OEM hitch as I want the full towing capacity.

On the vehicles with the factory hitch, do they also come with a second tranny cooler? Are they all pre-wired?

Call Sewell parts and ask those questions. Then order the parts from them and give me a PM. I'll gladly help you install if you like

Nice write-up, great reference to have!

What do you tow with your GX460? How much does it weigh, and how's the towing performance? I'm thinking of trading in my LS460 for a GX or LX so that I can tow my boat and get rid of my old 4Runner.

Default 2015 Lexus hitch sticks out

So I just picked up my new 2015 Lexus GX460 and the dealer installed Lexus hitch sticks out a full 4"" from the bumper. I really don't like the look and have already hit my leg on it when opening up the trunk twice.

I have searched the forum and cannot find a picture or description from the correct angle to tell me if this is normal. We were supposed to get a port installed hitch, but when the dealer couldn't get that vehicle they agreed to add the hitch at the same price. It is supposed to be exactly the same.

Can somebody tell me if it is normal to stick out so much? The metal part sticks out 2", and the receiving part an additional 2" after that. Pic is attached. Two thin red lines show the 2" and full 4" distance from the bumper.

Thanks!

Looks the same on my '15 GX.

Thanks guys. I am getting the impression that the ones that look so nicely fitted under the bumper were on earlier models.

Hi Silver Lady. I have a stinken feeling that this hitch will work and only costs a little over $100.

Hi Cap!

Well I paid for the Lexus hitch so I guess it is staying. Just checking to see if maybe they bolted it on further back somehow, but from what everybody says it is just supposed to stick out ugly.

Hey silverlady, I don't know its me or the angle of pic you taken, but I seem the hitch stick out too much? But I have seen one of the 14" model's has the hitch installed, it's doesn't seen stick out that much, I will stop by tomorrow to check on that and confirm you tomorrow

That looks like the official Lexus hitch, I have it on my 2015 and also had it on my 2012 (which looked the same). The early model GX's had a different hitch that was fully behind the bumper (my 2004 had that type) but what I found was the hitch ball mount had to be a short one or it would hit the spare tire.

I tried to get as top down a view as I could. If you enlarge the picture you can see the red dimension lines - smaller one is 2" and larger one is 4" out from the bumper total.

Hi, SilverLady.....

Yes, the hitches do look pretty ugly but you'll get used to it.
