Last week I got OEM hitch installed by a local independent mechanic. He followed the same installation instructions. However , the wiring harness is tilting downwards and not totally straight. Is it the correct way or he messed up installing the bracket to hitch.
Thanks in advance

What are people using in their Hitch ? Let's see some pics! Brake light ? Lexus Monogram? I am thinking about purchasing this and spraying it black.

After join in two days ago first time to post.
I have go though all the tow hitch discussion here and thank you guys so much. I still have questions but can not find answers. Please help. I have 2016 Gx. Maybe need tow a 5000 lbs trailer. Going to buy the OEM hitch to install. The car states towing capacity is 6500lbs . But that is with tow package installed. My car does not have tow package. So what is the capability for towing trailer on the safe side?
Thanks.

Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of a GX is 6600 lbs (black placard inside drivers door)
Curb weight of a GX is about 5300 lbs. Payload is thus 1300 lbs.
Everything you put inside subtracts, Driver/Passenger(s)/Pets/Luggage/Coolers/Etc.
Approximately 10-15% of Trailer weight is on the hitch: 5000 lb trailer is 500 - 750 lbs.
With your example you just subtract 750 from 1300 = 550 lbs. Couple passengers and
gears should work just fine. Don't fill all 7 seats and the roof rack!

Thank you guys so much.
i called Lexus 800 number. First after he checked my bin number he said my car does not have tow prep package installed. I ask him since I do not have that tow package, what's the safe tow rating, he can not answer my question. Transfer my call to their technical department, someone after put me on hold for few minutes, came back states" 2016 GX does not need tow package to tow 6500 lbs." I feel better now to install the OEM hitch.

[QUOTE=Acrad35751;9900776]That should do it... you will want to purchase and install a brake controller though. The electrical harness for that I believe comes with the hitch.

thank you, will do it. After I install the tow hitch, may have more questions to ask.

When towing at top rated capacity 6500 lbs the hitch will be pressing down between 650 and 975 lbs.
Take the 1300 payload and subtract 975 to get 325 lbs. Driver and supplies but nobody else...
These ratings and calculations are common, manufacturers test for and publish the maximum possible.

Just ordered hitch from discountpartsmonster.com for $242.82 plus tax and shipping total of $279.06. The cheapest I could find on the internet. Hope the installation will be smooth.

Today I installed the Lexus Hitch on my new GX460. I ordered the kit from Sewell Lexus. I also used the instructions that Sewell provides on their website for a guide on the install. The document number is PT228-60100.
The instructions are written well, however the diagrams are lacking slightly in their clarity. Pictures would have been better, even in Black and white.
Here my add ons to these instructions.
1) Read the instructions page by page at least twice to make sure you understand the different lengths in bolts and bolt sizes provided the kit.
2) When you open the kit, organize all the parts in the correct grouping of size and similarity. It will make it that much easier as you go along:

Thank you. I had read your post at least 5 times before I ordered hitch. Still waiting for it to come. I heard 2014 and 2016 installation are the same.
Is any chance you can tell how far the hitch stick out of rear bump after it installed? I ask because I have limited space in my garage.
Thank you.

I don't have the manual in front of me at the moment. However, seems like when I read it, the max towing was a 1000 lb trailer, unless you have the trailering package, AND trailer brakes. I believe the max legal trailering capacity is 3000 lbs for any vehicle without trailer brakes. There is a lot more involved in towing than just hooking up and going. Do yourself and everyone on the road a favor, and get some education on towing before you attempt it. Then take it REAL easy. Most states speed limits are less than 55 mph when towing for a good reason.
