My argument is that based on the fact that the US gasoline has 10% ethanol which raises the octane to 89-90 and taking into account for altitude this is enough octane for the manufacturers specifications even if it says regular unleaded. If anyone wants to run higher octane that's fine but it's just not necessary especially at higher altitudes. If you live in a country or part of the US that doesn't have ethanol in the gas then I agree that 87 is a little light on octane unless you are at 5000 feet ASL.

So if we were to declare a mutual "win" I am perfectly happy to get back to binging "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Camdog, is the octane rating on the pump measured after bending with ethanol? It must be since the ethanol blend is done at the refinery...so you can't add additional increase in octane due to the ethanol additive.
Yes and variation exists in everything including the measurement systems used to measure the octane rating (realize the rating is based on a sample of the "batch". You have no idea what you actually get when it comes out of the pump.

Most pumps read a "minimum" octane of 87 and "up to 10%" ethanol. My guess is most of the 87 grade at the pump is higher than 87. It is blended but I would imagine they are starting with 87 before the blend.

Of course you have 0 data to support your "imagination", but carry on with your opinions. The cost of ethanol being what it is, they likely use as little as possible to meet the minimum requirements.

And your data to support you "imagination" is where? Ethanol is being subsidized by the government to encourage corn farming in the US. If they had their way we their would be more not less in the fuel you buy. Problem is ethanol has taken a beating by consumers who complain about the lower MPG it causes as well as the destruction it plays on carbureted equipment.

I believe that was update because of EPA testing changes not necessarily changes to the GX. I’ve been able to achieve 20-21 on the highway in my ‘18. I hover around 16 Combined.

In my normal 30/70 (city/hwy) driving I never get below 18 MPG myself. I've been running Pedal Commander in ECO mode all the time.

Not all may handle this PC setting but I am fine with it... if I need my performance fix (and slow by modern standards) I get in my old '07 G35x (0-60@5.4/14.1 sec 1/4@100MPH)
