I do just the opposite with my 2006, now surpassing 250kmi and the engine appears to be in great condition, also ran 87 gas for most of those miles.

Default Best Gas Brand?

Anyone have any thoughts or input to gas brand? Some cars run better than others with certain brands.

I have read good things in Costco gas surprisingly.

Toyota / Lexus recommends using Top Tier certified fuels https://www.toptiergas.com/ I try to fill up at these stations if possible.

I believe Costco gas is top tier. Started using their gas recently after I discovered it was 93 octane and was cheaper then. I have always used 91 octane or higher.

Default 87 octane

Just to add to the discussion, I have spoken with several tanker drivers over the last year to get perspective on top tier vs no name (big chain) stations. All 4-5 drivers that drive for different haulers told me the exact same thing. They all fill up at the same depot in Greensboro, and deliver their gas to different stations. Could deliver to a Shell then around the corner to a Circle K. Hence, there is no difference in 87/89. They all told me that premium is different and each company has their blend of additives they put in premium.

In some places, the diff is like 40c per gal.
I have run 87 for many many years, no issues.

I get my premium at Sam’s. Was in FL recently and got hosed for $3.89 a gallon while on the road. Filled up at the Daytona Sam’s Club a few days later for $3.29. The clubs seem to really not gouge for premium as much as the regular gas purveyors do.

I fill up with 93 octane and when I get down to a half tank I fill up with 89 octane. At a half tank I fill back up with 93. I keep the receipt every time I get gas and write either 93 or 89 on it, and use these receipts to remind me what octane to get next time. I have been doing this for years when my autos call for 91 octane. On trips I don't do this as I don't like to stop that often. I fill up with 91 or higher octane.

I only use 93 (premium) on mine as much as it hurts. Haha.

Pros & Cons I guess. 1UR definitely more HP with increased comp ratio, but that kinda demands the 89+ gas. My 2UZFE with lower comp ratio runs a-ok on 87.

compression ratio
10.2 1URFE
9.6 2UZFE

More power usually mean more expensive fuel.

Pay to play as they say.

it costs $2-$3 on a complete fill up to use premium instead - you bought a luxury car, don't treat it like an econobox...
I understand gasoline of today includes a fuel cleaner on all grades, and if a tank of premium costs about $3-$5 more then use premium because a can of additive will cost about $7-$12 per fill up. The math doesn’t add up plus you can possibly cause other fuel issues if you haven’t used an additive since car was new.

As a new GX owner, I've been doing research as well and found the Car Care Nut explains it pretty well
. Video is from 2020.

If you lease and is definitely giving it back after 3yrs, use cheap gas. If you purchased and plan on keeping it for more than 5yrs, use the best fuel you can with the highest octane. Oh and change the oil regularly. I mean its a big investment, why cheap out on a few extra dollars worth of fuel? Makes no sense to me to even be discussing this. A cup of stupid coffee at Starbucks is like $5-7.

I usually fill up with premium at Costco or Samsclub and I notice decent gas mileage @ 19 mpg.
