Windshield questions, repairs, replacements

When replacing the windshield does the molding get replaced as well? My windshield was replaced by the former owner and I have wind sound(especially when moonroof shade is open. I looked at oem diagram and it shows what looks like molding. I was tempted to just use silicone but read not to. I think paying the difference that insurance companies allow and the cost of OEM is a good idea. Nothing like OEM parts.

Pilkington is considered the “OEM equivalent” and a lot of glass shops will install it as premium glass if your insurance approves it. It’s harder to get actual OEM but if you take it to the dealer and get approval from your insurance, then it’s certainly doable.

Just my own opinion but I would always replace the clips and possibly even the strips when performing windshield replacement. 9 times out of 10 the clips will break when you remove the side strips and unless you ask the installer will usually just push them back on. (I had this issue with my IS350)

Resurrecting an old thread here, but didn’t think a new one was necessary.
I scheduled a service appointment at my local dealer to have my windshield replaced. I have Allstate and they cover OEM glass repair/replacement 100% under my comprehensive policy at any shop I choose. I also dropped my deductible from $500 to $0 for an extra $54/year for our two vehicles a few months back. Glad I did since this claim alone will offset that cost difference for quite some time.
One thing I thought was interesting is that the dealer uses a third party vendor (Abra) to do the glass replacement. Is this common practice across all Lexus dealers?

After getting multiple defective windshields from Safelight (checked before install), I decided to go to the dealer to get the windshield replaced. They actually referred me to a 3rd party that only does glass replacements. The third party picked up the OEM glass from the dealer and installed it in my driveway.
