GX 460 Roof Rails Upgrade
#137
Looking for some help from anyone who has installed or removed a blackline style roof rack. I am trying to remove the end caps from the blackline roof rack and can not pry them off. I've pulled every which way and they are on there rock solid. Thanks for any help

What is your lift setup? Looks amazing

Used my Matco panel pullers and it worked great thank you. Just got one wedged where they hook under with the bumps (2x places on each side of each cap), left it there and took another one to work it around to the next bump. Helps to push down on top while getting them disconnected so there is less tension on the plastic. The center clips pop off super easy
****Heads up if anyone is changing a black line rack***** you need to order 63230-42010 Lexus Roof Rail Bolt, you will need 4. They are $7.90 plus shipping each which is pretty crazy for some bolts, but I just wanted to get the factory ones. The blackline rack has 4 different bolts in the center than regular racks use.
Thank you, its an Icon stage 5 lift. Its been great for about 35k or so on 3 different GX's, but I think my fronts are starting to seep at the joints. May try Kings next if I need to do another rebuild. Wheels are FN 6 shooter 17x8 on 285/70/17

Looks great! What I am curious to know - is about any rubber molding or weather strip that goes into the channel that the bolts seat into? Since you have removed the OEM flush rail, a good majority of that channel is now exposed where the OEM rail would have covered it (if I remember correctly the OEM weather strip doesn't run the entire length just the from the windshield up to the first mount point - then from the back mount point to the rear of the vehicle - like two pieces - I think – but the in-between points were covered by the OEM rail nonetheless).
Amazon version you purchased doesn't look to provide a weather strip, but the original post from 2015 I think Jacket bought a strip at the end to go into the channel. I digress, I like this look, a lot – but worry about water leakage or some other bs getting in there. Is that channel in the middle between front and rear mounting points just open? The price point on this is a nice alternative and update to the Blackline “look” compared to the Yakima Ridgeline, IMO. I rambled a ***** ton - haha, but would love to hear your feedback!

Correct. I thought about trying something different also but ended up just biting the bullet. Definitely overpriced though

For those who are still interested in purchasing the OEM parts, I want to share that you probably don't need the bolts to secure the front and back bracket of the rail because you can use the one from the original rails. I purchased and used the new one. But I found the old ones to be good to re-use afterwards.

Pricing seems to vary, and be very expensive for OEM rails? Even on Amayama, my shipping alone is more than $500 (again, this is just the shipping!)? Does anyone have suggests on the best place to buy the OEM rails reasonably?
Due to prices, I'm thinking about the Chinese rails sold on Amazon/Alibaba, but I do want matte black vs glossy, and I'm a little concerned about the quality (leaks, weight capacity, durability, etc.), as I do plan on using them to haul some kayaks.
Any advice from anyone who has done this recently?
Looking for buying advice. Thanks

@capn2000 ,@jphowey , @SCOFF82 , and anyone else who has installed the Chinese made Prado 150 rails from ebay/aliexpress/amazon, how are they holding up? Are you using them to carry anything and are they sturdy enough (I want to carry some kayaks). I emailed an ebay seller about the weight capacity, and his response was "This product is just a decorative piece, which can't bear too much weight."?? Seems like an odd response to me?
I'm trying to find a satin black vs gloss, but seems hard to determine from the non OEM ebay/aliexpress/amazon sellers.
The OEM ones look nice, but hard to justify the price if the ones from China (ebay/aliexpress/amazon) are good enough?
Would like to hear some feedback. Thanks
