It being so easy was what surprised me too. If you blow or pull that one fuse, the car is dead. ECU will not power, which means locks do not work, keyfob does not work, ignition, everything is unpowered.

I did this the first time I made a DIY invisivord on a Tacoma. I still have the blown red 10 amp fuse as a reminder of my own carelessness/stupidity.

It took me a while to figure out since I was new to all of this. No AC in the middle of summer, no speedometer, nothing really worked and the battery died on me.

Default BlendMount and MirrorTap installed on 2014 GX

It is long over due small project that I had on my list. With spring around corner and summer travel planing on the horizon, I finally got the hands on that. Pretty straight forward install, with 2014 GX without Driver Support Package, just take off the mirror harness covers, by sliding down the top part then pull towards yourself to remove it. For MirrorTap wire kit, the second smaller size tap pin works perfect with the harness. One thing that I learned that is, buy the 15" or longer tapping wire kit. the 10" one will have hard time to fit in the cover due to its inline fuse. With 15" or longer ones, you can hide the fuse portion of the wire up inside headliner, then run the rest of wire down inside cover to have a much clearer install. I made a small notch at bottom of the cover for the wire to pass through. Here are few pics for anyone to reference. For 2010 - 13 GX, the harness is actually on the back of the mirror. it is actually even easier to install.

Thanks for that. I did remember the thread of discussion just couldn't locate it initially. If forum admin can merge it would be great.

I'm going to tackle this project this weekend. I pulled my blendmount and mirrortap kit out of my '17 Tundra that I just traded, and it looks like it will work on my '20 GX. Hopefully, the safety sense (LDA and AHB) didn't change anything that is posted in this thread.

I'd appreciate if you could follow up on this thread as I have a '20 GX and thinking about adding a dash cam too.

Default 2016 GX 460 Hard Wired radar detector

I was a little hesitant to start taking apart my new to me 2016 GX but I'm tired of the dangling cord for the radar detector. This job took roughly 20 minutes and is not difficult at all.
  1. Remove the screw that holds the rear view mirror assembly to the windshield.
  2. Pinch the sides of the lower plastic shroud together and pull gently to remove.
  3. Gently pull on the upper plastic shroud and remove it. This will expose the power cord to the mirror.
  4. There is a tab at the bottom of the plug connecting the cord to the mirror assembly. Squeeze the tab to disconnect the plug from the assembly. There is enough additional wire beneath the headliner to pull the cable down about 1" to allow for some additional working space.
  5. I used the pig tail with the smallest connectors.
  6. The bottom left side of the plug has a blue wire, this is the hot. Slide the red wire connector flat and parallel with the bottom of the plug into the blue wire slot.
  7. Just to the right of the blue wire is a black wire. This is the ground. Slide the black connector from the pigtail into the bottom of the black wire slot.
  8. Secure the pig tail to the wire harness with a small zip tie.
  9. There is enough room to snake the pigtail out the top of the shrouds against the headliner.
  10. Re-attach the plug to the mirror assembly.
  11. Re-attach the mirror assembly to the windshield
  12. Snap both plastic shrouds back into place.
  13. Re-attach the plastic shrouds.
  14. Connect the radar detector and bracket.
  15. The radar detector is now connected so that it will only operate when the ignition is on.

It's not difficult to do and a LOT cleaner than a dangling cord.

Probably something I would do to my SC430. Don't really drive the GX much above the speed limit.
