Actually, it's a rear seat mirror and a sunglasses holder:

tecman: thanks for pics!!! If I can't tap into the mirror wires directly with Invisicord will go after something in there for my permanent dashcam install.

Old thread resurrection...

Thanks for heads up on what wires were switched. This saved some time. I put in an Invisicord for my dashcam today. Looks like the '12 and later went with the setup that is linked in post #4

I’ve used this setup on other cars in last few years. Quick, clean and easy.

i used the micro and fused option.

Acrad: I don’t recall you mentioning what dash cam you have.
My dash cam is now unavailable on Amazon.

I am happy with it

bbqsoup: Hope I didn't send you astray with the type... I was looking at tecman's post above and the wires to that connector look quite a bit bigger that the small connector used in my GX and similar to arrangement in this post.

That being said I think the micro should still work fine.

I'll try to take some pics later today of the final result. I usually put some mini wire loom around it in a way that makes it look more stock too. Might need to make a HF run for that.

As for dashcams in other cars I have these KDLinks X1's that I picked up in 2015 IIRC and I have been happy with them.

I have a lot of Garmin stuff and decided to try one of the Garmin 35 models. Now... not disappointed with the camera per se but there is a disappointment part. It sees power on anything other than stock cable as mass storage mode (connected to computer). You can bypass the screen but will require a a couple button pushes each time. I'd say avoid this model with the use of an Invisicord. Perhaps some of the more evasive install methods can get around this. I am told the Garmin 45 doesn't have this issue. Most of my GX use is for longer range driving so this isn't the worst issue to have but daily mixed driving of start/stop ..it would get old in a hurry.

I think I might try this fix

Invisicord has this on back order so I cancelled it (they said they have 50
coming). My A119 dashcam just released a new firmware and added a Parking mode so I’m going to play around with it with an always ON with my add-a-fuse. I may come back and order again when it’s back in stock.

Looks like that Garmin cord is more than that just using the outer two connectors. I'd have to solder in a resistor. Pinouts are like this Garmin Nuvi GPS.

This 35 model has a forward collision alert built in. I guess the 45 model has lane departure warnings if someone wanted that.

A few shots of install. I used the wire loom too as the Invisicord cable was kinda dangling so it gave it some rigidity and enough slack to move the rear view mirror around since I mounted the 5V converter on top of that. I could change this up some if it doesn't work out too.
