The oil changes are 10k mile intervals for the GX, so the 5k "between" service is typically just an inspection. Rotating tires ensures even wear and longevity for the set, so yea, it should be done every 5k but you don't *need* to take it to the dealer for that. Once you buy a new set of tires from a tire shop, most of them will do free rotations for the life of the tires.
I thought the cabin air filter was every 30k miles (?), but you can see what it says in your owners manual. It's about as easy as changing the toilet paper roll in your bathroom, so I'm not sure I'd pay the dealer $100 for that work.
The Cabin filter is not due until 30k miles, it is in the glove compartment and easy to replace yourself. The reminder is programed and you should be able to reprogram it or disable it (I have a different version in my 2011). http://drivers.lexus.com/t3Portal/do...MS-15GX460.pdf
Get the tires rotated at a reputable shop and save the money.
The 5000 mile intervals are a joke. They just inspect this or that, which you can do yourself and just make note so you can validate when it was done. You can easily rotate your own tires with a couple of jacks and an impact wrench. At most a 20 minute job, or have a local shop do it for a nominal sum. As others have said the cabin filter takes less than a minute to replace. If you cannot change your own oil I would take it to a Lexus dealer instead of a "Jiffy Lube". You do not know what they will put in your engine or what type of cheap filter they use. I have noted in the area where I live that Toyota dealers are not allowed to do as much work on Lexus vehicles as they could in the past. I think the Lexus dealers complained to corporate because they are losing their high profit margin in their shops.
The dealer gets no work from me unless it's warranty or free service. Sorry, but there absolutely no reason to pay their high rates for service. The Lexus is nothing special and any fast oil change place or local mechanic or even yourself can change the oil and do simple servicing and save a ton of cash. Keep records of what was done and there will not be any warranty issues.
If you're taking it to the dealer, chances are they're adding a bunch of items to their "recommended" list. Just tell them you want the basic factory service for the mileage you're taking it in for.
I agree with everyone else. The 5K intervals are a waste of time/money.
Oil Changes every 5 K under "extreme" circumstances ?
Hi all...just got a 2015 GX 460.
Seems oil changes may be recommended every 5 K miles when under severe conditions - I live in southern Arizona....temperatures around 105 most of the summer.
Worth an oil change every 5K miles under these dusty hot conditions?
No, there is no reason for 5K changes because you live in desert conditions. I lived in the Sacramento Valley in California for 30 years and never adhered to the severe conditions. Now, if you were pulling a boat or camping trailer through high mountain roads etc, it may be worth considering. All I did while living in the hot dusty valley was change my Air Filter sooner than recommended.
