Default Intro and questions about user and service manuals for 2012 GX460

Hello all,

I found this helpful forum while searching for some answers while shopping for a good used GX460, and found the members to be very helpful and friendly.

We just purchased a very nice, 2012, satin cashmere metallic painted 63,000 original mile, one owner, GX460 base model with Nav and parking assist, but no rear air suspension. A full 3yr/100,000 mile Powertrain warranty was included, all for $25,700 here in the Denver, Co area.

We came from a 2016 Subaru Forester XT with 33,000 miles. My wife was very reluctant to want to trade her car for the GX 460, but these new Subaru’s with DI turbo and CVT’s are really disappointing and Subaru won’t admit to not having the bugs worked out yet. I looked at it with disgust and a future eminent large component failure before 100,000 miles. This was our 8th Subaru and I used to race and build race engines for others, so I know my way around these cars quite well, and I won’t be owning another Subaru until they make some big changes.

I drive a 2006 Landcruiser already with 190,000 trouble free miles on it, so I know of the Prado version as well and their reputation for quality and durability. I also talked my parents into buying a nice 2014 LX570 a few years back, and they absolutely love it.

It only took one test drive with the GX to prove how much better quality and ride it has vs. the Forester XT rattle box.

She loves this GX, as do I !

The GX only came with the small books for the owners manuals, so I was hoping to find a digital version or factory large manual for cheap or free if anyone has one.

Also, does anyone have the factory service manual digitally on a pdf?

I need a manual for the phone setup/ Bluetooth/ Nav.

The vehicle was serviced and maintained at a local Lexus dealer as well, but it looks like someone installed a cheapie aftermarket air filter, so I will be swapping it out with either a factory or K&N, which is recommended for this GX HERE?

Also, coming from a decently responsive turbo car, my wife got used to the torque and good throttle response at low throttle position, so I am considering a throttle enhancement device like pedal commander. Is there a better or more affordable unit available or a DIY that works?

Thanks in advance!

Here is the link for PDF Owner's Manual: https://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrive...anuals?type=om

Services Manual will need to be subscribe to tech info.toyota.com in order to obtain. It is a huge database and if you are constantly working on the car yourself, then it is worth it.

Welcome fellow Coloradoan and LC owner.

I have yet to see any free copies/links of the FSM for the GX460 floating around, and I'm not willing to pay full price. But given all the progress and usage in the international Prado groups, there might be something out there for the Prado 150 which would have a lot of overlaps.

Thank you Hzhao for that link, very useful! I couldn’t get it to work earlier, but it did just now.

Thanks for the Colorado welcome Jacket! I appreciate the tips on the Prado info. I bet most of it does crossover. $400 for a used 2012 GX460 shop manual set is a tough pill to swallow, of course, if something larger needs to be done, it would quickly pay for itself.

Bumping this one. Any new sources for a GX 460 factory service manual in the last 4 years?

How did you get them in printed form? I hate the pdf thing of it all, as I take notes and such all over the manuals (or did for my FJ60 and 4BD1T manuals).

Here are the PDFs

I've seen a few comments that after around 2010 Lexus/Toyota handed over paperbound production to the following

https://www.helminc.com/

I could be very wrong here but don't think I have seen any OEM paper bound GX 460 factory service manuals newer than 2012. I purchased the Lexus Electronic Wiring Diagram book for my 2012 off of eBay for around $50 last year.

I do prefer paper but that is too much to keep up with and search through. PDF files are good for massive information but if it is a 20 page document I do prefer paper to add programming notes. I am now adding notes on my iPhone app with titles.
