The 2010-13 Cupholders are better than 14+. That being said I still don’t like the design in my 2011.
This is the same design as the GX470 ... amazing it was carried over to the GX460 ... a worthless POS in terms of function. The only reason Minivans exist in this world is for the cup holders ... so maybe Lexus should buy a used 1990's Dodge Caravan to study the theory of operation so they can possibly emulate in a future design ... possibly an option as part of the 2020 "Sport Package".
Has anyone experienced issues with their cup holder breaking? Specifically, the prongs that hold the cups get pushed into the cup holder and fall into it.
We don’t abuse our 2015 Premium and this is the 2nd time it has happened (first time was right after I bought it - used - and it was fixed under warranty.
There is a topic about this already. The GX's cupholders seem uncharacteristically flimsy for a luxury SUV. One of mine broke too, but in my case it was the folding bit, not the prongs. Worst part is, you can't get just the broken bits replaced. The entire thing, with the expensive laquered wood lid, comes as a single $400-ish piece. I've glued mine but haven't dared put it back into place while the weather is so hot here. Trying to do it in the heat will make me rush it and potentially break it again.
I have captain's chairs in the 2nd row and the folding cup holders attached to those chairs will break with the lightest touch. The somewhat good news is that the parts snap back together again with a little effort.
When end I got mine replaced they said the same thing ($1000). They also sounded surprised like it didn’t happen often. Thats why I wanted to check with others to see if that was BS.

Thanks!

can you share a link to the other topic? I tried searching but didn’t find anything relating to the GX.
I was thinking of pulling it apart and fixing it myself but based on the others feedback, I’m gonna go fight with the dealership first to get it covered under warranty again.
