Just did this on our new to us GX. Vehicle is about 3 years old. I could not discern hardly any difference between old and new fluid for what it's worth.

I did not use any fancy equipment. Just a standard brake bleed bottle and my wife assisted. You do need to have the ignition in ON so that the pump will run and move fluid to both the fronts and rears. Unfortunately, on the fronts, the pump will not continue to run and push fluid so it requires the old school press and hold/loosen/tighten/release/repeat sequence. The rears you can do in one or two press and holds of the brakes as the pump will cycle and continue to push fluid continuously, very easy. And the sequence per the FSM is FR, FL, RR, RL; I'm assuming the ABS unit is towards the rear of the vehicle making the front lines longer.

Added info here before I forgot: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...reference.html

I'm assuming if I had done the conventional 2-man bleeder or speed bleeders, I would have needed to start the engine up to perform the bleed on the rear calipers.

@binhster what adapter did you use for the power bleeder?

I made with Home Depot plumbing parts. I use garden sprayer to build air pressure only without brake fluid. I find it too messy otherwise. Especially with the design of the DIY adapter leaving a few ounces of brake fluid at the coupler.

1-1/2” to 1-1/4” Rubber hose reducer coupler

I had to cut the raised lip off bottom of my pvc plug but one in link doesn’t appear to have lip. Alternatively, the PVC plug can be flipped 180 degrees and inserted into coupler the other direction.

1/4” Air compressor tool fitting

PTFE Pipe Thread Sealant

Pressure Gauge tapped into 1 gallon sprayer:

It needs to be as low profile as possible. Otherwise it won’t clear the hood opening.

Default Calipers Bleeding Process

Has anyone charged a caliper on a GX460(2016)?
is it the same process as the old GX470? Don't remembered which one you don't pump. It automatically bleeds itsel. You just press the pedal.

Rear brakes are pump powered, front calipers are bled the old fashioned way.

That's right, only matters for the pump on the rears.

Just for info. I did it yesterday and I have the base model.
it looks like no pump for the back didn't sound like the old 470 when is pumping. So i did it the old fashion way no key just pump 10 times and press.

Regarding the proper adapter, I just removed my original post about recommending the Power Probe BA10 as that one appears to only secure to the Toyota reservoirs with the push to seal cap. The GX 460 cap is threaded. Sorry for my misguided information.

I had purchased one of these Power Probe BA10 back in late '19 but never test fit it

It does actually fit on the master cylinder and seemingly secure & sealed.

I will try to do a pressure test with my Motive bleeder in next few weeks.

Default Brake fluid flush sequence and brake pads same as 4runner?

I measured my brake pads today and it is at 6.5mm. The car has around 30k so I figured might as well flush the fluid while changing pads. Can anyone confirm if caliper flush sequence is (right rear, left rear, right front, left front) for our car? I apologize if someone posted a "how to" already but I couldn't find it. Also, how much Dot 3 fluid do I need for a full flush?

Also, does this https://www.ebay.com/itm/163318763415 fit 2018 GX 460? I know 4Runner rotor and pads are interchangeable with GX460, but they appears to have different part # and backing color in the photo.

Great questions as I had the same coming from a 4R background. I've learned a lot reading some of the posts here, T4R and IH8MUD.

I didn't realize until reading posts here that our GX and (4R) have individual channels back to each wheel. So from my reading the sequence you mentioned really isn't necessary. I did my 4Rs just like you mentioned but it didn't make a difference since each wheel has a unique line and not shared. Again.. learned something here. Damn that @Acrad ... It's just when you think you hit the end of the internet on the GX when you see another link he posted....

Here is a great recent vid on Toyota/Lexus brake flush:

The other thing I knew... but now understand is our front calipers need to pump the brakes whereas our rears you need to hold to the floor for the mater cylinder to pump the fluid out. Engine needs to be on for this to happen and I know that from experience.

On my 4Rs I replaced the bleeders with speed bleeders and it made it a single person job. I'm still waiting on their reply but I'm nearly certain the 4R speed bleeders will work for the GX (http://www.speedbleeder.com). (SB1010-SS), (SB7100-SS)

I don't know the answer to your ebay pad question.

Regarding how much fluid you will need in my past 4Rs when flushing I would have 4 of these https://www.amsoil.com/p/dot-3-and-d...code=BFLVCN-EA

Granted... likely would only need max of 3

Thank you for the detailed information. I have a pressure bleeder so the job is much easier. To be honest, this vehicle is the easiest car to service among all I ever owned... except for the oil filter which I wish it can be accessed from the top. I still can't believe my dealer ask $800 for 30k maintenance and $120 for cabinet filter.

I just replaced the pads and fluid last weekend. It took four 12 oz bottles. The BA10 adapter for pressure bleeder was out stock on Amazon so I decide to try my luck with this one "ARES 18003-43mm Master Cylinder Adapter". It holds15 psi just fine
