My 2 cents. I'll start off with the fact that I live in a year round 60-75 degree climate by the beach (Huntington Beach, CA). My goal was to find a good all terrain that could perform excellent on snow and ice as I do 30+ snowboard trips a year to ski resorts ranging from Lake Tahoe to Mammoth Lakes, to Utah and Colorado. I don't want to have to swap on winter tires since I live somewhere that's 60-75 degrees all year round. After doing a lot of research, I decided on the Falken Wildpeak at3w.

This past week my family drove up to Tahoe and back during two huge storms of over 30" of snow where the driving conditions + kook drivers caused a complete **** storm. Now I can give my first thoughts on these tires. They handled flawlessly in deep snow and on sheer ice. The amount of confidence you get due to the traction on ice is fantastic. Of course, most credit should go to the GX 460 -- what a great rig for the snow! Can't say I've driven another vehicle that has handled better in snow. I grew up in Alaska, so have a pretty good idea of how well something performs in tough conditions, these tires are superb for an all terrain that you need to handle well on snow and ice. I think it's pretty much the perfect tire for someone living in a warm climate like socal who needs to be able to go into the mountains during winter and doesn't want the hassle of switching on dedicated snow tires. As someone who will be doing a ton of trips to ski resorts, these are perfect. My first choice was going to be the KO2, but the reviews indicate it doesn't handle well on ice at all due to how hard of a tire it is (The Falkens are softer which is better for ice conditions). Additionally, the KO2 makes a lot more road noise than the Falkens. When these wear out I won't hesitate to buy the same tire.

Quick little update. Was able to take the GX on a short drive the other day to get a taste of how it handles with the Nokians on. All in all did great! Majority of the roads were cleared other than side streets. There's a long hill to get up to my in laws and it was covered in snow and ice so used that the gauge the difference. The Michelin's didn't grip well at all and had a little slipping, the Nokians you wouldn't even notice there was snow. Went on the highway to see how the handle there again road great, no road noise nice and smooth as well. The GX had a little shimmy around 65-70 range nothing major but now that's gone. Will post some pics this weekend after I clean the ol girl up.

As for the Falken's I have them on my Jeep and I think they are great tires as well. I drove down in the "impossible" snow storm Tuesday and didn't have any issues. I only had to stay in part time 4WD and no issues. Reason I didn't go with them on the GX was two reasons. One, price, I got a great deal on the Nokians. Secondly, tread was more aggressive than what I wanted on the GX. Since the GX is our family road car and my Jeep is the camping back in the sticks vehicle.

I went with the Falken AT3 in 275/65-18 SL. Now I have to wait for them to show up.

FYI - Discount Tire does not answer their phones anymore during winter rush, this is due to the fact that they got rid of their call center service. When I was at the store none of the phones were ringing which seemed strange to me since they called me and told me to call them back. I never got through on the phone so I had to drive there to get everything sorted out. Not stoked on the customer service side of things and I am hoping everything goes well after purchase. Not feeling the love right now.

"The largest tire size you can fit with *no modification* is 265/70/17. If you're willing to make some adjustments, the largest tire you can fit with *no lift* is 285/70/17. This will require a body mount chop and fender liner massaging with heat gun and maybe a knife."

If you stay with 18” rims, 265/65/18 will
not rub.

... yep ... 265/65-18 fill the wheel well perfectly and should have been the "as delivered" size ... anything taller or wider on the OEM rims will rub. IMHO the stock 265/60-18's make the GX460 look like a Mini Van ... completely lost in the wheel well opening.

I agree. I regretted I didn't go for 265/65 when I got the Wildpeak

Disregard any input based on the Lexus computer (displayed) MPG calculation. The 65-series is 3.6% larger in circumference ... so the computer mileage used in the MPG calculation will be off by that factor.

Restated ... the tire circumference is increased by 3.6% going from 265/60-18 to a 265/65-18 ... so the vehicle is traveling 3.6% farther per rotation than the computer believes given the computer counts rotations to establish distance traveled ... and is calibrated to the stock 265/60-18 tire circumference. So the MPG as calculated by the computer will appear to have taken a hit when in reality more distance has been covered for a given quantity of fuel consumed.

So to answer your question ... using ACTUAL gallons used against ACTUAL actual mileage covered ... the MPG difference is close to a rounding error ... so go big and be happy ... but understand that if you go from a P-Rated rated tire to an LT-Rated tire or to an E-Rated tire, the extra weight can make a difference ... especially with stop-and-go traffic.

To add some data point, I'm currently running 275/65/18 Nitto Ridge Grappler on stock setup without any issue.
