Yes there are great options! I researched the heck out of it for many months and finally, thanks to this forum, I found perfect wheels and tire size for my ride. I get so many compliments all the time, it is crazy! Strangers walk up and say, "man, those rims make that ride look way better!" Our ride does not suffer either. I was real careful to get enough sidewall without sacrificing on bigger wheel size. They are off the GX now sadly in the garage. Going to put them up soon to get them out of my garage.

Not a very good pic as rims look bigger than this in person! No ride suffer and cheaper to replace the tires when worn down!

(159mm on 265/60/18's vs 151.25mm on 275/55/20's if I am doing my math right).
20's are biggest you can go without sacrificing ride quality in my experience. I had 21-22 and you can feel the road more. Bouncy and more harsh. I have 20's now and practically feels like stock.

After spending hours on this thread I finally pulled the trigger on the wife's rig. Black Rhino Zion 6 20X9's wrapped in Goodyear Eagle II 285/50R20. Turned out really good and definitely doesn't look like a granny mobile anymore. Here's a little before and after action.

I have been lurking here for quite a while and finally registered to say thank you for posting. I've been waiting for someone to post these exact 20x9 Fuel wheels on 285/50R20's.

Ahhh ... the beautiful but bulimic OEM Toyota Wheels ... why, but why, but why does Toyota put such narrow wheels (7-inches) on ANY of their truck based SUV's ?#? IMHO way too much sidewall bulge even when running 265 tires, so on-road handling is like riding on water balloons unless running E-rated tires with a stiffer sidewall. So unless you are a professional curb crasher or rock crawler, these wheels are way too narrow. Even the Lexus 7.5 inch wheels are borderline.

This is a good point. It’s a narrow rim. Can still take a wider tire. It also has a different offset than factory GX wheels so it sticks out a little more while being skinnier.

That being said I wanted skinny tires so I went with 255/17R17 tire. I love it.

My preference is the Trail Edition wheels. They are half an inch wider at 7.5" and have built in valve stem protection. I have 265/70/17 E rated tires on them.

The 8-hole FJ Cruiser wheels are 7.5" also.

I agree. I was looking hard at the TRD wheels but did not like that they were 7". Depending on the width of tire you go with, the 7.5" wheels are a better option. They also don't have as much offset(+15mm) so should allow a little better tire clearance in the fenders. Oh, and you can get them for dirt cheap since every other person with a TRD OR 4Runner pulls them off the second they leave the dealer. I paid $400 for a set of 4.

All the 285/70R17's I looked at suggested a 7.5" wheel minimum and that is what I am running.

Nice rig.

I have some TRD wheels, in grey, coming and I too am concerned about the 7-inch width. I've seen guys put 275's and 285's on there but I think I'm going to stick with the stock equivalent for now (265/65R17). But even then, with 265/65R17, they vary on recommended wheel width with load rating / # of plys potentially being the determining factor.

Also, the set I ordered had a +4mm offset (PTR20-35110-GR). I guess there are multiple versions out there?

All the TRD Pro wheels I know of are +4. There are some aftermarket replicas that are a 17x8.5" in a +0 I think.

The TRD OR wheels are +15.
