Thanks! Those are all good points. I'm moving towards a wider 17" rim, i.e. 8.5, with less of an offset than factory, i.e. '0', to push the wheel out a bit and away from the UCA, however that will be at the risk of fender rubbing, particularly at full articulation, which is what I'm most concerned about.
Good points. I'm also in struggling with ditching my TRD's for a wider wheel. I like the +4 offset (compared to the +25) that the TRD's have but that 7 inch width is limiting.
For me, because I plan on towing and using this as the daily driver-mom-mobile for the wife and kid, I need to keep things mild from a lift standpoint and also keep things close to factory spec for towing purposes.
I also run a winter / summer setup so I get the benefit of daydreaming about wheels on two different fronts but at the same time, it's double the analysis paralysis lol
Ok, what's the consensus on this setup? 17 x 8.5 wheels with 0 offset. A 265/70/17 tire will sit 12.3mm further away from strut and 37.7mm away from outer rim compared to OEM.
Also, shouldn't have a prob fitting this size wheel/tire in spare wheel holder.

did you look into 265/70/18? Im still debating between that size and 275/65/18
I stuck with OEM size, but upgraded from Michelin LTX M/S2 from 2014 to Michelin Defender LTX M/S, but I purchased 5 tires this time, includes spare. Tread pattern looks like the LTX M/S2s, which I loved. Made mid-December 2020. The old LTX M/S2. Made mid-June 2014. Old tires showing dry rot, even with lots of tread. Tires were 7 years old as of 2021. 4 fresh tires + spare
Hi, Im Brian- First post here.
I bought my GX ('14) three years ago and wanted to change the wheels and tires immediately but when I bought it they said they were putting new tires on it so I waited until those were done to finally make the upgrade. It was a long wait!
In November I found a shop that specializes in land cruisers and have done many GX lifts, etc. I had planned on lifting it but ultimately decided to just do a 2 inch leveling kit in the front. I feel pretty good about that choice, it saved me money and I ended up with the look I was going for.
I did 20" black rhino wheels and nitro ridge grapplers.
I also changed the rear emblems to gloss black.
I am happy with where my car is, it looks a lot better than it did stock in my opinion.
I am about to hit 70k miles and am leaning toward just keeping this car long term.
So what else should I do?
I was looking at changing the grill to the new style.
I was also thinking about wrapping all the chrome body color and/ or black.
I was even thinking of maybe a satin wrap for the whole car.
So what do you guys think? Any other cool mods I should do? bumper? running boards? I don't know!?
My 13 is that Knight’s Armor color and I used anthracite Plasti-Dip about 8,000 miles and 20 car washes ago. They still look perfect. Powder coating is not cheap. With the tires being wider than the rim, curb rash is a non-issue. Did the bright part of the grill the same too. They must make a shade close to what you are looking for.
"So what else should I do?" is a loaded question and completely dependent on what you want to do with the vehicle.
Take your time and read through the hundreds of pages on this forum and decide which "upgrade" works for you.
Your ride looks great! I suggest you enjoy it in it's current form for a while and read up on what other mods people have done in the meantime. With those wheels, I'm assuming you don't have plans to do any off-roading. So maybe look into interior enhancements to improve your ride, e.g. adding carplay (GROM/VLINE), adding additional power ports, etc.
Yeah, how do you use the vehicle? That's probably going to dictate a lot of the answers. If it's just for looks, the sky's the limit. If you need it to function a certain way, then the advice will flow freer.

I was in a similar situation trying to sort out new tires and wheels.
Ended up going with the TRD Pro wheels in matte black with 265/70/17 Falken Wild Peaks.
I can confirm 2 things with this tire/wheel combo. 1) Wheel will fit in the factory spare location and 2) Minor rubbing on the front of the front passenger side wheel well and on the back of the front wheel wells on both the driver and passenger sides and full turn.
Heat gun and flat headed bolts should sort out the issues.
