Im due for an oil change in the summer, can I just ask the dealership to save some oil so I can send it off to get tested? Im interested in finding out how ****ed my engine is.
You could use a clean container or order a oil sample kit from Amsoil, Blackstone, or others and give that supplied container in the sample kit to the dealer. Just make sure that the engine oil is up to temperature before sampling and that they let the oil drain a few seconds before taking the actual sample being sent to the lab.
The 1UR-FE engine is very very easy on oil. One issue that can present itself is fuel dilution that will cause a viscosity decrease. Cold. temps and short trips can cause this.
Searching for a member that would be interested in taking an oil sample when doing your own oil and filter change.
I will supply the sample kit and all I ask is to drop the kit off at local UPS drop off point when done.
Looking for an engine with over 30,000 miles on it, and an oil mileage over 3000 miles, but preferably less than 7500 miles on the oil when you would drain the oil and collect the sample.
A mix of city and highway driving is also preferred.
PM me if you're interested.
Would like to get the sample taken in the next 30 days.
I had a somewhat higher fuel dilution number on my 2019 that has since dropped to nice levels, so that is the MAIN reason to see what others have for Fuel Dilution with varied driving conditions.
LexusGXFan, I think I uploaded it right (first time uploading a pdf so if it doesn't work, I'll screenshot it and upload as a pic) but here's the most recent oil analysis that I have. It lists the last 4 oil changes (2012 Premium currently with 60k miles)......hope that helps! Good Luck!
LexusGXFan, I purchased it used with 28,500 miles about 3-4 years ago. I’ve done all my own oil changes but didn’t send any samples for analysis the first couple times. I started sending the samples off since it wasn’t that expensive and figured it would help with resale if I ever decided to sell it.
Purchased our '18 GX recently. Was a low mileage vehicle, currently ~17k miles, and while the 1st oil change was done prior to 10k miles, it went a little long (about 1 yr 3 mo). Just changed the oil when we got it, only its 2nd change in almost 3 years of operation, with 7500mi and almost 1 yr 6mo on the oil. So I was a little worried about what I'd see. But every used one we looked at had a horrible maintenance history. This was the only one I could find that had everything done on time, at least based on miles. Good news is that the amount of time on the oil does not seem to have had a significant effect and I think I'm in good shape going forward (will no longer be a low mileage vehicle). Toyota 0W-20 oil used at both oil changes. Viscosity still okay and the TBN shows plenty of life left. Pretty pleased overall, everything considered. Posting this as it may be helpful for someone deciding on a used vehicle with similar maintenance history as mine.
Here is my report, my car has 108k mi on the odo, overall I am pleased. Based on this I will extend my interval to 7000 mi. I have seen some 10k mi reports and in some cases is too long.
I bought this car used at 95k mi. It had all the oil changes done at the dealer at 5000 mi intervals since new.
The last two oil changes, including the one in the analysis, were with Shell Rotella Synthetic 0W-20 and Genuine Lexus/Toyota oil filter at 5000 mi intervals
The car is driven daily in Florida in clean roads, lots of short trips 10 mi, may be a couple of 300 mi road trips. No towing.
Sample was taken when opening the oil filter housing (I know it is not ideal but that's how I did it).
The report mentions some sodium but it may be residual from former oil changes, I have seen this in other 1UR-FE reports so really not concerning.
