I agree, because assuming (I know we should never assume) this seat burned for no reason as the OP described, this is a very scary issue.

At the very least, I hope the OP files a complaint with the NHTSA as another poster suggested.

The color looks like Sepia:

GX Base - Black NULUXE

GX Premium - Leather (Black, Sepia, Ecru)

GX Luxury - Semi-aniline Leather (Black, Sepia, Ecru)

AirForcegx, I would have your entire interior detailed and steamed ASAP (and keep the receipt). Smoke odor can be hard to remove.

We been doing aftermarket heated seats for many years. Never had an issue. Samething thing been said about aftermarket remote start. Been doing them for over 20 years on Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, ect... you just have to follow a good installation.
One of the reason why I asked him if the heated seats are aftermarket. Aftermarket heated seat need to be hook up to IGN ACC and not constant 12v. I just did mines on a base GX with Nuluxe and those suckered get hot on the high switch. It has Low and High.

Does the "Base" GX even come with heated back seats?

OP...take a picture of the seat. Why is the hat the focus of your picture?

Lexus would never treat a customer like this, if this is a legitimate concern. Looks like an aftermarket part install that was installed incorrectly.

My 12 Base has heated rear seats, not sure if they were an option but they are there.

Which makes it even more unbelievable that Lexus would just leave him hanging here...especially on such a new vehicle with 5k miles...

Rear outboard heated seats were a Base option in 2015.

I suppose we should give OP the benefit of the doubt, I would be freaked out if my backseat just randomly melted down too. But the story just doesn't seem to work out.

1) The seat heaters don't run when the car is on.
2) The seat heaters simply don't get that hot.
3) Could be defective wiring for the seat heaters that caused a fire, but again I don't believe power flows to these when the ignition is off.
4) Dealer would replace the seat on Lexus' dime, they don't have any reason to simply deny coverage on a 2015 unless outside coverage due to mileage, which would be quite a lot of mileage on a 2015.

And then the weird picture where it seems he's more concerned with his hat.

Makes me think OP left a tablet or other battery-powered device on the seat which combusted and burned the seat, and is now trying to make Lexus pay for it since the seats happen to be heated. That tar residue looks a lot like lithium-ion battery fire damage. Could have been one of those hoverboards which are known to catch fire, or anything else really. Otherwise it would be a slam-dunk warranty claim, take it to the dealer and let them handle it.

I agree, for Lexus (Dealer) to decline coverage repairs is very surprising. The complaint should be elevated to Lexus Headquarters because the pic looked like serious safety related damage.

Unless I read the OP's original post wrong I think Lexus Corp was contacted.. The Op wrote; " I have contacted Lexus who sent an inspector and said they wouldn't fix it, or replace my car".

This leads me to believe that an Inspector from corporate was sent to review the damage, and then it was Lexus Corp that refused to repair it under warranty based on the Inspectors findings.

This is why IMO something is being left out of the story.. It just doesn't add up.

Default back seat 2015 gx reply update

All equipment is as I got it. No aftermarket. I have attached the vin from my insurance card...my 2006 infinity q56 had rear seater heaters, so don't know why that was such a shock. again, not a troller, just looking for advice to elevate my concern...

Are you not able to take a picture of the actual seat, and move the hat somewhere else? Forgive us, but all we have to go on is a tar covered orange hat.

If Lexus actually sent someone to look at your vehicle and they declined to cover it....they must feel pretty strongly about what actually happened.

Thanks.
