Advice on Cooper AT3's vs the new Falken AT3W
#16
I've got the AT3s on my 2013 and I really like them. Haven't gotten them dirty yet but they do have great on road manners. I am running a 275/65/18 and the myths about not rubbing are false, at least in my experience. I was able to eliminate it by removing one screw on the liner in the back of the wheel well and then by reshaping the remaining rub points w/ a heat gun. Has taken me a few tries to get it all worked out. A different offset aftermarket wheel will probably give you rubbing in different spots.
I am currently looking at Method Roosts in 18x9 et18 which should widen the stance by about 1.5" on each side. The roost is less than 27 lbs. per wheel which is a couple pounds lighter than the OEM wheels and hopefully will make up for some of the weight of the larger tires.

BFG KO2's
Yes, there was some wheel rub, only with the inside front bolt on the wheel well. I got this taken care of by the local lexus dealership when they replaced that single bolt with something 'flatter' and it took care of it. Easy fix.

Your other option is Prado rocker covers which you can source new from Toyota dealers outside the use, i.e. South America, MiddleEast, Asia. Otherwise the best source I found was a used parts site in Japan but it was going to be about $430 shipped for both sides. I had one running board that was already scraped pretty well from previous owner so I went the cutting route.

I ended up going with the BFG KO2's 285-60-18 set up with some XD wheels. I absolutely love the set up.

BTW, Discount Tires is having a $75 rebate on the Wildpeak and if you have their credit card, it’s another $60.
Droping the price to less than $500 for 4 in 265/60/18.

I plan to get the AT3 for my GX as well. Did you get LT275/65/18 C or P275/65/18?
Can you PLEASE update on the rubbings?

I double checked and mine are the ATP, not sure there is a major difference, and the are P-, not LT. What would you like to know about the rubbing? I removed my running boards but that doesn't really have a huge impact. You'd be safer w/ 265/65/18 from a rubbing standpoint. They are 1/2" smaller diameter.

The reason I am interested in 275/65/18 AT3 is because it comes with C-load (perfect for this heavy GX). Like you said 275 is less than 1/2" larger width than 265 but it rubs it multiple places so I will focus on 265/65/18 instead.

I recently purchased Wildpeak Falken's tires and Method wheels and love them so far. I took it to the snow over the weekend and it did great on snow and ice. Much quieter than my previous KO2 and lighter. I'll report back a year of so from now to give a noise report

I was curious to see how these tires have held up? I"m on the market for new tires and was considering the falkens but I have heard mixed reviews.

I just had them rotated for the first time at 4k miles. Still quiet and very stable handling. I was on some really loose rocks/gravels at a construction site a few weeks ago and these held great. I'll have a chance to get them on some dirt roads in a couple of weeks when I take the annual fall color photography trip LOL.
Raining season is almost here and can't wait to get these wet.

Falken Wildpeak AT3W
I think I have narrowed down my choice to this tire. Can you guys explain to me what the benefits are with going to a slightly larger size? Is it mainly a looks thing? Are there good benefits for off-road driving with a slightly bigger sidewall? The 65's are a bit heavier and that speedometer will be a little off. I'm not sure if I should go with the 265/60's or the 265/65's and deal one bolt that rubs.

Primarily a looks thing. More sidewall also gives you more of a cushion/rubber for bumps.
Unless you love your current 18" wheels, take a look at 17" wheels as well (aftermarket or 4Runner takeoffs) and then run 265/70/17. Even more rubber and the benefit is a much cheaper AT3W. Normal price for the 265/70/17 AT3W size is $127 and you can get them for around $110 each when discount tire has sales.

I went with the 265/70/18 and absolutely love them. Its definitely a big tire that looks a million times better but also performs very well off road as well. Aired mine down to 25 psi last weekend and did a nice 12 mile trip on some pretty rough AZ desert and the tires did awesome.
