Anyone use non OEM AIR FILTER FOR GX 460?

The K&N has been in my truck for about 40+K miles. Time to do the cleaning process or just replace it. The K&N filter is a touchy topic in this forum

I've had the dry AFE in my car for 15k now with no issues. Since it is a dry filter, whenever I have the hood open (which isn't that often) I will take the filter and tap on it to knock out the larger particles of dirt.

I had K&N in my Taco and I believe it caused the truck to run RICH...I see black residue on the tail pipe (and rear bumper/quarter panel) after 10k miles....I threw it away.

k&ns are good for those who appreciate delicate balances. If your want to set and it forget it, just buy the regular ole filter and call it a day. No power gains or such, as the motor is tuned optimally to the air box

Not a good idea to tap the air filter to let dirt out, it will suck up loose dirt, change the filter.

Tapping the filter on the ground is one of the first step to cleaning the filter according to my filter's manufacturer. I am not tapping the dirt into the filter, im tapping it out. If I knock dirt loose and it gets sucked back into the filter for some odd reason, the filter is going to stop it from going into the engine like it the first time.

I should have checked it at 20K or so. Now I know to spin the filter due to the intake location. The filter is perfectly square so this would help no matter what filter you have.

Directions say to gently shake off excess water and underlined allow filter to dry naturally.
I don't recall how long it took but temperature would be a factor.
