I didn't think to do this but it would be interesting to see what a Blackstone or related test would find on this AT fluid. Perhaps it still has a lot of life in it but color degrades quicker at higher heat. I don't know. If you have changed your diff fluids and transfer case you would be up for this to do. You just need to have a method to monitor the temps. TS, OBD app, Scangauge or utilize the built in method. Trickle was obvious.... it went from a steady flow to just trickling a slow amount on side of overflow hole.

My factory fill was about 1/3 of a quart low.

I emailed a local dealer to find out what a similar service would cost.

They stated: $180

Assuming I am going to do this a total of 3 times ---->

$540

I have around $100 in fluid and time is money so one will need to make the maintenance task comfort level and time is money argument to themselves to find out if it is worth it to them

I do end up using 2nd start during the really long stretches of stop and go traffic. It works out nicely!

If you decide to perform this maintenance please post a simple pic of fluid as well as mileage & year. IMO... long term owners should be considering this service whether at the dealer or in the driveway/garage.

My 460 is still very low mileage. I did this flush in my driveway on my 470 at 130k miles. Fluid was black!! Have pics if anyone care to see.

I will post pics of next drain and fill in a couple weeks. I will be heading out of town next weekend. Once fluid is back to a near stock & new pink fluid color I plan to do an annual drain & refill which will be around 3 quarts.

I was going to take mine to the dealer but I'm always a little worried they won't do something right. My dad was a mechanic for 35 years and he said it will be fine to do it ourselves but I hate getting him involved. He wants to drop the pan and replace the filter. I guess I will buy the USB cable for Techstream so I know the temperature of the fluid to fill it.

IMO...nothing wrong with dropping pan and replacing filter. I will do that closer to 100k miles. Several different ways to monitor temp as well. Also the built in temp detection but I like seeing the real live number.

MBF - If you do drop pan and filter please post back experience as this info will be valuable. I’m always concerned about bolts that can sometimes snap offf on drain pans.

This thermal degradation estimate isn't available on 10-13 models but if you have a '14+ model you should probably reset this via Techstream after your second drain and refill since it says it should be reset at around 50% fluid replacement.

At your mileage thats normal, and its a good thing you replaced it. Says a lot about the lifetime fill....

I might try to do at least 2 subsequent drain and fills next time I change it. The process doesn't seem so ominous now and piece of mind.

Yup, Drain and Refills take quite a lot more then a simple flush, but even if you did leave it at this, your probably better off then those who believe in the lifetime nonsense.

Just bought a 2011 with 112K miles on it. It had a tow hitch on. Do you recommend to add a transmission fluid change in my next maintenance (at a local Lexus dealer)? Many folks insist that doing it after 100K miles might do more harm than good.

Just my opinion which I think has changed now...but I think I would move concern mileage up to 200k miles on this vehicle for mileage to "not" drain and fill if stock. A drain and fill shouldn’t be an issue at your mileage on the GX. I won’t say that for other vehicles though.
