Hopefully this isn't some odd compatibility issues with vehicles from Canada..
That's also my fear! I looked through every single post on the RES thread and all vehicles/posters are from the US. Not a single Canadian one!
Makes me wonder if anyone installed the RES in the Canadian version of the GX?
Thanks for the wiring diagram. What I will try today is:
- Try doing the 14 button pushes with the hood closed
- I tried with one of the fobs in the cab, I will switch to the other fob. They may be different!
Hopefully something will work! I'll post here whatever I find..
Man, I've tried everything! All possible combination of doors, hood, opened, closed, different key fob..etc etc. Not a single combination worked! Still no blinking whatsoever.
It seems the module is communication on the CAN bus because when I ran a diagnostic with TechStream, it was listed among other Body Electrical modules.
So, it seems the problem is getting the ECU to register/recognize the RES module. But so far that is not happening!!.
I'm hitting a wall here....
Does anyone know if any of these RES kits has been successfully installed in a Canadian GX 460??
O.K. after spending a few more hours, I gave up on this RES installation
Before throwing in the towel, I did the following:
- Tested the wiring harness pin-to-pin. All was good
- Checked the presence of 12V and ground on the connector in the vehicle wiring. All was good.
- There is NO hood switch to be found anywhere! I checked the latch and there is no wires coming out of it at all. No sensors near the hood hinges or the hood struts. Nothing! If someone knows where this mysterious hood switch/sensor is located, please let us know.
I also found, if I come across any ideas and would like to test the RES module again, there is no need to take off all the panels mentioned in the installation manual. It is enough to take the door sill cover and the passenger kick panel (#1 and #3 in the manual) to access the RES connector. This will allow a quick test if any new ideas come about.
So far, it seems this RES option may not be compatible with Canadian GX. Local Lexus dealers don't even know it exist and it is not listed in their accessories manual. I'd be interested to hear from any forum member who managed to install it in a Canadian GX.
But, not all time was wasted, I installed the MTS module since it was in the vicinity. This worked well, a true plug-and-play and got the MTS menu.
Thanks to all who helped and replied my posts. Much appreciated.
Thanks Acrad..
The one in my GX doesn't seem to have that connector Besides, no wiring/cables in the vicinity seem to be going to the hood latch.. puzzling!!
There is a connector in the wiring harness nearby, which has a factory plug on it. It can be seen in the bottom-center of the first photo. I am not sure if it is meant to be for the hood latch, or for the Radar Cruise sensor which is usually located in the Lexus emblem right across. (I don't have this option in my GX)
Back when camera/radar cruise retrofit talk came up late 2017/early 2018 it was established that for US market 460's 10-13 have the wiring and '14+ do not. This could be another wiring anomaly though.
Larger connector is for radar cruise and smaller one is for the camera
Yup.. Looks like the one for the radar cruise.. No hood connector though...
You're right, could be a wiring anomaly. perhaps residual stock harness got used in this truck being an early 2014 (purchased Feb 2014).
Back to the RES, I saw some videos (for other models of Lexus) where the immobilizer can be reset by inserting a paper clip (effectively a short) between pins 4 and 13 on the OBD connector and leaving it for 30 mins. I am wondering, first of all, if this is applicable to the GX with a push button start, and secondly if doing so while the new RES is wired in, will force the immobilizer to recognize it and start registering.
Just a thought!
cancruiser: Have you confirmed/tested your vehicle alarm to see if it goes off by opening the door inside while armed or if nothing happens with hood open as well?

There is an alarm in these trucks? Never knew! I only know of the immobilizer.
How to arm the alarm it and what does it when it is set off?
I added the GBS to my factory alarm. There is also a separate horn inside the engine bay used by the alarm. I can't say whether your vehicle has that or not. I had up until your RES issue thought they all hood switches.

well, you're lucky wherever you are. Here, remote starters will start from $700 and up. None works with factory fob as far as I know.
700 !!!! Woah that's robbery i know 150 is super cheap i did get lucky im on ohio usually its 250 or 300 but mine works with pressing lock 3x on factory remote
