There is always RES+ but it is being turned down at the end of 2022.

For those of you with aftermarket remote start, do your under car lights work? On my 2010 they don't. A lexus tech told me they could have been unhooked when rhetoric RSteve was installed.

Thank you Acrad for re-directing me to this thread, lottsa' good info here!

I have a 2011 Premium without RES. What is the consensus here for OEM RES vs aftermarket?

I'm seeing the OEM at ˜$300, not sure about aftermarket pricing.

I got mine for under $100 years back but that deal is long gone. It looks like the 12V Solutions option is easier to install. If you go OEM you do have to use Techstream.

OEM remote start is USELESS. It's the only remote start that shuts off the car once you simply touch a door handle. I never use it for that reason. Why do I want to start my car twice?

That's a safety feature so your car doesn't get stolen.

I realize the reasoning behind it. The execution is horrible. Put that switch on the brake pedal or gear shifter. At least let me get in my running car, have the car authenticate the key fob, and let me go along my way.

Good point. I had not considered the concept of keyfob authentication as you approach/enter the car.

I agree. I now have a BMW and Dodge with remote start and the execution is 100% better. Car stays on and you just hit the start button to go. It won’t let you put the car in gear until you push the start button.

The execution of the push, push, hold and the range is terrible too.

I'm probably being too **** about it, but the idea of TWO starts on a winter morning irks me. Knowing that starts, especially cold, are the source of a lot of engine wear. I do still use from time to time

The second start wouldn't technically be a cold start though would it? The engine would already be warm from the first start.

Agreed... I'm probably being too fussy about it

"Oh, another engagement of the starter, etc"

fair point though - more wear and tear on the starter. but a relatively inexpensive item. I'm glad that the GX doesnt have the annoying autostart feature everytime i pull up to a red light or stop sign.

You're right... I'm going to start using is now. F it. LOL

As for auto stop/start... my understanding is that the components involved are beefed up for this extra load. /shoulder shrug
