DIY 2011 GX460 #Navigation and #DVD #bypass Cheap -- PICS
After a lot of research I have finally figured out a way to bypass the navigation and DVD lock-out while going faster than 5 mph.
***Warning cut at your own risk****
This bypass will only work for 30 secs - 2 minutes before the rocker switch has be switch ON and OFF to rest everything.
In stop-and-go traffic or slower driving this method will allow access for about 2 minutes; at highway speeds it times out after 30 secs.
So, lets get started
The whole process is simple
Once you have the head unit out it should look like this
Top and back view of head unit
Look for the Red and Aqua wires on the lower connection
Here is a better view of the Aqua wire. I removed the Red wire to test the signal. The red wire is to the left of the aqua wire
The Red and Aqua wires on the lower right hand corner are the wires you are looking for
The Red wire is the Speed Signal wire
The Aqua wire is the parking brake wire to watch DVDs (The wire is only require to enable to DVD play while moving)
Before I cut the wires I removed them to test and check.
I soldered the brake wire and grounded it to the body (I used the head unit's mounting bolt)
A little tape to keep everything safe
Ground for the brake wire - This is the mounting bolt for the head unit.
Now here I have cut the Red wire (which is the speed signal wire and added a rocker switch to interrupt the signal)
Here is the rocker switch that completes the circuit when ON or stops the speed signal when OFF
Notice the speed but nothing is grayed-out
more testing notice the speed on the navigation screen but the I'm going over 40
Enjoy

So, lets get started
The whole process is simple
- You'll need a few feet of wire (speaker wire would work great)
- A Soldering iron (Check out this link https://www.howtogeek.com/63630/how-...ginners-guide/)
- Some solder
- A rocker switch

I missed this one.... probably because it was posted before I bought my GX in March 2017.
Still working well for you? Wonder if this will work for '14+ models as well.
I don't really need DVD in-motion but 30-120 second interrupt based on speed for in-motion control is nice and overall a benign mod with just a toggle switch on a single wire if you just want control in-motion.

Probably not. 2014+ model years has completely different Navhead unit with different wiring harnesses and software. Just judging by looking at BeatSonic solutions, there are two different one for prior and after 2014 GXs.

I would say the mod would work on a 2014. Toyota / Lexus are a very conservative company and while they have change the head unit the wiring for the most part would be the same. You'll just need to find the signal wire for the speed and spice it.

I can confirm that this does in fact work for a 2014 GX. I did this project on Saturday. Very easy job and THANK YOU to r6dallas for the write up. Color code is the same however on the 2014 there is only one main connector to the back of the dvd unit.
Does anyone know which wire activates the Backup Camera? I would like to add a hidden micro switch to activate the rear backup camera on demand for when towing my trailer.

Would the unit that JA created for his 4runner be similar to what some companies are selling with unlimited use with no timeouts
