I never got my full tank on airbag recall :-(

GM did say if I ever bring back in he will release it with a full tank of gas. I guess I leave that email on the seat :-)

Didn't get any gas out of this one. No price on the invoice due to it being warranty, states they replaced the Secondary Air Injection pump assembly with cover, and the air switching valve assembly no. 1 and no. 2, all of which was book time of 2.3 hours.

Glad it's done and pretty painless. If this hasn't happened to you, be prepared for it. I thought I was clear since I'm at 112k now... the filter can go at any time.

I don't ever plan to run the foam inside mine ever again...even if I end up getting the warranty replacement. Just gonna take foam out and put the Uni back on.

I just put the upper radiator cover back in place and examined the work that was completed. The upgraded pump has the new style cover which I believe has been posted here before. I'll probably pull it apart later and see about switching it to the uni-filter, which I still have as I ordered one months ago but decided against using it due to the condition of my existing OEM filter.

It was reassuring again see that you were able to get yours out of limp mode after the fault occurred.

I'm not sure if they were able to see the residual code after it had been cleared... I believe they were able to. I'm not sure if it would cool down enough due to how hot it is here to get a true cold start without it sitting all night.
If you're preparing for this failure, having a pick tool to easily remove the upper panel clips, and a OBD2 device would allow you to not be stranded if this failure strikes. When mine failed, it was at the absolute worst possible time when I was trying to get my dog to a serious vet appointment. Thankfully I was able to use my Explorer in the mean time.

Hopefully this helps the next person. FWIW, the SW was familiar with the failure and was able to pull up some Lexus-based documentation regarding the warranty while she was completing the work order.

The parts replaced per the invoice were QTY 1 04006-37138 Kit, Air Switch and QTY 1 17610-0C040 Pump Assy, Air. I think the documentation may have been wrong because there should have been two of those and the invoice shows three total parts. The units on either side of the motor are new as is the pump so I'm not concerned.

Be advised once you unplug the pump, you'll throw a P0418 (IIRC) that will throw another CEL/4lo. Clear that code in addition to the P244* code and you'll be good to go.

Thanks to everyone that contributed to this post.

I'm planning to get 2011 GX460 that will come with 2 year powertrain warranty. Will this secondary airpump issue be covered by it, or should i try to find the letter with the extension? As soon as i get it, will replace the foam filter.

Lexus will cover any GX between 2010-2013 for 10 years or either 150k or unlimited mileage. You don't need to bother with the extension letter at all.

The only thing the letter did for me was realize they had extended the mileage from 150K to unlimited. That is pretty nice since these rigs have potential to have far more than 150k miles by 2020-2023 depending on model year.

That being said I wouldn't let this issue prevent anyone from a purchase.... lots of options if something happens in 2024.

If you run the parts numbers I posted, you'll find that the parts aren't super expensive and everything is pretty easy to get to. I think a standard DIY individual could complete the repair without issue and with basic hand tools.

would this issue be a deal breaker on a 2011 GX with 107K? after running the vin through the lexus website, the previous owner has this issue at 72K miles and declined the repair by
Lexus. The car is being sold by a Toyota dealer about an hour from me. Kinda curious if it had the filter mod done.

Again, Lexus (corporate, NOT at a dealer level) has modified this warranty several times and each modification is in favor of the vehicle owner. A 2011 will be covered by this warranty until 2021, so that would give you several worry free years. Honestly, you would want the failure to occur before then so it is covered and you would be good for quite awhile, OR, you could remove the filter and add the external mini filter and avoid the failure all together. It is HIGHLY doubtful that the vehicle has the filter mod as I think it has only been discussed on a forum-level and really, the target market for these vehicles are not people who frequent forums.

I would not worry about that vehicle in question if everything else checks out. Our 2012 was purchased at 103k and has been flawless other than this failure. Not to get too sidetracked, but I did some basic maintenance (fluids, filters, plugs) and it is just running great as a Lexus should.
GL!

Just FYI, they can still fail even with the filter mod done. I had pulled the foam filter out of my pump and placed the Uni filter on the inlet. I still had the failure and had to have the pump and both valves replaced.
