I'd use an OBD II code scanner and figure out what the code is if any and go from there.
the used dealer also provides a 3 month 3K warranty on powertrain, and they are a toyota dealer. I think this could be a more solid purchase than an RX of the same year. the price seems right
as well.
Is it in limp mode? If it is a transmission related code, you might need a more through code reader... I think some of the more pedestrian ones don't have the capability to really check things out. Obviously, using Techstream would be your best bet to see any codes that might be present but perhaps aren't enough to trip a CEL.
If one doesn't have Techstream... pick up "OBD Fusion" for Android or IOS.
Once connected goto Settings and Purchase Extras. It will give you the option for $9.99 to purchase the model year specific pack that will look at almost all of the vehicle ECUs.
It will look like this. I think this was a screenshot from bbqsoup... mine says 2012
••You have to be connected to car when you purchase the Add-On.
Just a quick update as a datapoint for the forum. I recently registered my 08/2010 GX with my VIN number to the official drivers.lexus.com website. About 1 week later I get a letter on the mail from Lexus with a sticker & an announcement that my vehicle now has a 10 year/unlimited mile warranty on the secondary air pump/etc from its date of first use. There was also some verbiage from Lexus about their willingness to pay for past repairs made out of pocket.
The Christmas lights went off on the dashboard first thing in the morning. I had the mini filter on for around 15k miles.
Currently at the dealer waiting. Where’s the free coffee? Lol 😆
It didn’t go into limp mode or maybe I didn’t really noticed.
It was definitely a bit sluggish to get up to speed but I was able to get on the freeway to about 50mph. Due to traffic, I couldn’t go faster before exit.
I noticed the MTS light as well and I’m probably the first CC/MTS mode with Secondary air pump code.
edit: I swapped out the filter before taking it in.
Mine stock items sit in a baggie in the rear storage area. It shouldn't matter but you never know
Yes, I was just being cautious LOL...It takes a couple of days so I got a NX 200t as loaner. Nice fully loaded little car with a very peppy V6 engine too but the cabin noise is loud. LOL.
