If one goes with a Hewitt-Tech bypass.... if you buy a kit with the pump proxy pack the air pump can also be removed. This might be helpful for off-roaders looking for extra space in the engine bay. IE: secondary battery, air compressor, etc
Sorry for this already answered question, I'm sure?
I performed the Uni mod - easy, thanks.
Question: Reapply the plastic housing over the intake/filter, or leave off?
TIA

I actually just did this last night and was debating on if I should put the plastic cover back or not since it sits on the top of the filter element when in place. In the end I went ahead and put it back on as it seems fine regardless.

Yes, cover fits nice and snug - but not too snug. I think I'll leave it.
Thanks to someone in here posted about warranty on the issues. I originally brought the car to a friend shop to replace the pump and air injectors. I decided to called Lexus dealer and found out about the extended warranty. Any one with P2442 & P2440 error codes just call your Lexus dealer. Car run so smooth now.
I got an pre inspection done on the car (not through Lexus) and this was the memo when the car was scanned.
2Codes stored as history. No current issue. P1604-startability malfunction, P2442- secondary air injection switching valve stuck bank 2.
I am particularly concerned with the P2442 - when I brought the car to Lexus, they said there are no issues with the secondary air injection as there are no current codes but only history. I am wondering if this can be an issue for me down the road. I reviewed the limited service history on the car, and I don't see any history of the secondary air injection being fixed.
Next question, I tried to do the uni-mod today, and was able to get the centre torx screw out, however I was unable to get the top cover for the filter out. It was not loose and it seemed like it was glued shut. Is this top cover generally easy to remove or does it require some finessing?
I wouldn't worry about a 1604 unless you observe low idle. Battery could have been low at some point.
On the air pump cover mine came right off but I thought I remember someone saying in another thread they had to tap theirs off.
I don't believe Lexus extended the warranty on '14+ models for air pump issues like the 10-13. I see in your previous messages you have a '14. How many miles are currently on your GX? Are you in Alberta? If so, what is national or provincial warranty coverage in regards to emissions? If unsure... might need to check your factory warranty book as that system is likely covered there as well.
I think 1604 was due to the battery as it was low and has since been replaced.
I have a 2010 GX with 127k miles. The in-service date was Feb 2010 so I should have until Feb 2020 going by the TSB. I am unsure about the national/provincial coverage, but I brought up my concern with my Service Advisor when performing some unrelated work and referenced the TSB. She says because there are no active codes, they won't look into it at this time but to come back if there are any issues in the future. That's why I want to look to see if my foam has disintegrated as my 10 years is coming up real soon.
I will try tapping the top cover and see if it comes out or not. Thanks!
There is always a bypass or aftermarket repair parts years down the road if problem crops up past 10 years. No emission tests in my state for vehicles 2009 and newer so would likely go with the the roughly $300 bypass

Just a note but your foam filter does not necessarily have to disintegrate for there to be an issue. Sometimes the valves cause issues even without the foam disintegrating and being sucked into the system. I've had an external filter on my car for a couple of years now (with the foam filter removed) and I just had to have my secondary air system replaced, thankfully under warranty. There was a problem with one of the valves independent of the foam filter.
Same here. I had the filter on for over a year and the pump failed a couple months ago. It's a 2010 so the time was good.

GX 460 Air Injection Pumps and Air Switching Valves Issue
Hi, I have a Lexus GX 460 2012 with 81,000 miles. I bought the car in Miami, but it was first sold in Canada. Now, I'm getting the error codes P2440 and P2442. I read here that Lexus acknowledged the problem and is taking care of it and that "the vehicle will be repaired with new Air Injection Pumps and Air Switching Valves if within 10 years from the date of the first use or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first" (which is the case). I took the vehicle to my local Lexus dealership and they're charging $2,700 for the repair service and when I asked for Lexus to take care of it, Lexus US says that it is not their problem, because the car was first sold in Canada, and Lexus Canada says that the extended warranty applies only within Canada. Any advice about what to do? I wanted to talk to a supervisor, but the customer service representative denied me that possibility. Thank you.
