should the filter mode still be completed if the vehicle went in for a recall?
also ive tried to take off the cover to look at the condition of the filter, but when i removed the screw in the center, but couldnt get the cover to come off, is there something else i should do (twist or hidden clip)? ive broken enough on this truck trying to use force.
I ended up putting the UNI filter back on since the revised cap fit fine over it. I pulled out the post recall foam since the filter effectively addresses that concern. The revised cap does have some areas where foam is better captured in cap lid though.
Cap should pull straight up.
I just took mine in for replacement without failure. The only part they didn't replace on mine was the air pump since it hadn't failed.
WRD4chano: Have you thought about just taking it in and having them replace the old parts?

per the service records, it was completed in 11/2019.
I had to bring the car in due to DMV putting a hold on my registration for the JLG recall. Very annoying, I don't like the dealership but I cant renew my registration otherwise. Now I need to stand in line at the DMV with no appointment (you can't make online appointment for registration renewals)
There are still some advantages to that system like not worrying about failure at some inopportune time and additional engine space for over-landing accessories.
It allows you to to eliminate the air pump if someone wants to plant a battery, air compressor or something else there but it comes at a cost.
As your experience years back showed one can get out of limp mode with air pump unplug and CEL reset.
The problem with the bypass is getting the car registered, now that the JLG recall is forced on the owner. You would have to put the oem system back, working or not, and take it in to the dealership to get the necessary paperwork the DMV wants
It probably does depend on state. Starting in January 2020 ....Washington state no longer requires any emission inspections anywhere in the state. Annual vehicle inspections do not occur here. The only time state patrol based vehicle inspections occur is for registering a private sale out-of-state purchase or when trying to license something like a home-built trailer as an example.

I don't see the problem here. Bypassed or not, you go in for a test and no codes are thrown so you pass inspection. I have the bypass and no issue for me.
