Added an HKB Electronics Alternator Voltage Booster to keep the AGM battery at peak. The voltage at the battery went from 13.9/14 to 14.3/14.5. It appears the voltage is nearly the same via OBDLink.
That's a viable option. Gonna try a different setup first however that's a great Plan B to better distribute the load against the lifting point.
After some trial and error to improve the stability and distribute the load point of the oem bottle jack both front and rear, I came to the following conclusions....
I ordered one of the rear axle adapters mentioned above to better distribute the load on the axle housing: https://sites.google.com/site/landcr...s/jack-adapter
- I added some noico cc foam (as pictured on front adapter below) to the interior of it where the axle will rest to avoid metal on metal contact patch
Since the above will not work on the front side frame rails for a front tire change, I created the below front adapter from HD items. I've tested it multiple times and it works like a charm to distribute the load off the bottom of the pinch weld on the bottom of the frame rails: cost < $10.
To improve the stability of the OEM bottle jack I plan to use a piece of 1/2" thick oak hardwood cut to (8"x8") with some 3/8" dial rods pieces sticking vertically up 1/2" that align with the holes in the oem bottle jack base to increase the jacking footprint. I'll also carry with me a few wooden wedges in case I need to shimmy the base level before jacking. Will add picture when it's done this weekend.
worse case I use my USAA insurance and just call a tow, but that isn't always an option...sometimes ya just have to change your own tire.
Note: I did buy the same omega bottle jack used in the safe jack kit and some of the safe jack accessories but it made no sense after having it onhand to carry to bottle jacks and their jack requires a bunch more attachments due to lifting range constraints... the toyota oem bottle jack is a marvel of engineering so I resolved to simply making some tweaks with it as is.
Went to post about swapping out the reverse bulbs to the ones @leftyguns just recently did and realized I never posted about the new tail lights I got put in a few weeks ago. New tails are pretty awesome, definitely look a million times better than stock IMO. Quality is pretty good but not amazing, the bottom trim pieces are held on with 3M tape which is already starting to let go but a little bit of epoxy will do the trick. All in all, I am happy with my purchase. The new reverse LED bulbs are the icing on the cake for the rear end and are not nearly as blue as the pics make them look.
curious to hear from anyone who also has a 3rd gen LS in the garage what they would pay for this one: https://www.parkplace.com/used/LEXUS...9cfc87d882.htm
Been to see it, it's pretty damn clean, looks like it was driven to church on the weekends and garaged. undercarriage looked rust free and I crawled all over and under it (on a lift) and didn't see any leaks or cracks or anything of concern...
seriously considering picking it up and selling our 2005 corolla (can get 2500-3500 for it in this area even with 200k+ miles)
feel free to PM me so we don't bog down this thread with off topic discussion... thanks
Ordered some Timbren Active Offroad Bumpstops....
Wife was complaining about the harshness when going over speed bumps... I said well slow down a bit and take them slower... she said I don't want to.... I said ok well that decision is gonna cost you, she said go for it.... and done.
In this week's episode I climb on top of my car to give you a bunch of poorly researched advice on how to securely fasten children to your roof... and I talk about this roof rack thing I bought too.
Sounds good. Probably going to do some PA stuff soon too. I'll send you a PM. Or PM me your cell and I'll text you.
Where y’all wheeling at in the PA/NY/NJ area? ... and are you looking for another person? Got a stock GX and would like to get some experience as a beginner.

South NJ. Pine Barrens. Wharton State Park. Careful with the bogs. Some had deep ruts. I do recommend AT tires. I'm probably going out tomorrow.
