I towed that amount last week over a pass... mileage was like 12 or 13 MPG but I was heavy on pedal too. Lots of additional wind drag on trailer I was pulling as well.

GX 460 Brake controler
Just bought 2014 GX with factory hitch. If you have factory hitch they put a 6 in long cable in the glove box, which is a Toyota cable that pugs into your wiring under the dash {wiring for lights}.....on drivers side...which can then be wired to a controller, I had a P3 in my Tundra and kept it to reinstall. The connector is for Toyota./Lexus only. If you don't have the cable it is under $10...can buy at dealership, Amazon etc.

I tow a travel trailer (camper) that weighs about 3600lbs with my 2012 GX 460. It has gone pretty well. Anyone install a transmission cooler to their Lexus, or any other parts for towing (other than tow hitch and trailer brake)? Thanks.

The GX has a transmission cooler straight from the factory.

Thanks for the quick response. I see the trans cooler on the diagram. It looks small. Do you think an additional trans cooler, installed in front of the radiator, would be helpful? I was parking my trailer at a camp site this past summer and got a warning on the screen behind the steering wheel that my transmission fluid was getting dangerously hot. I parked the camper, then let the Lexus cool off. I took it to the dealership and had them change the transmission fluid. I'm just worried about a future overheating transmission. Thanks for the help.

It would help. I think it would take a very large cooler for it to be a problem.
There are a number of aftermarket units available.
Here is a mount that KAON sells. The top two screws are the same holes used for the horn if you go with an aftermarket.

The OEM one they sell on GX's in Canada use this one.

Thanks for the quick response. Looks like that trans cooler would help the engine, especially if I am towing in hot weather. Do you think I should get that installed at a Lexus/Toyota place, or could most repair places do that kind of work? I appreciate the advice.
