Do you have any powertrain warranty left? It really shouldn't matter with "The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act" but often shortens the warranty battles one can encounter at the expense of increased installation costs.

If not, I'd go with whatever reputable installer you can find in area. Look for high ranking transmission shops. I'm inclined to get one on mine the more I monitor transmission temps with the OBD apps.

A few hundred dollars for a cooler is cheap insurance for a likely $4k+ transmission rebuild.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know if I have any powertrain warranty remaining, I'll look into it. I am purchasing an OBD reader and app so I can monitor the trans temps as I tow. Hopefully that will give me some good info.

Powertrain warranty is 6 years / 70k miles. If you are unsure of your in-service date email ----> Customer_Satisfaction_Inquiries@lexus.com

with your VIN. They can tell you. Or submit through the owner's site--->

https://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/

My OEM powertrain expires shorty on 5/12

I have a GX 460 and need to mount a brake controller.
What experience have others had with brake controllers on GX 460's, and where have you mounted them?
Can you please include pictures of the mounted controllers?
Many thanks
Jon

I ended up mounting mine in the center console. It is out of the way, works fine, and doesn't bother my kid who is 5ft nothing and has to move the seat up almost all the way to reach the pedals. I didn't want it at anyone's knee mounted below the steering wheel

Can a trailer brake actually interfere with normal braking?

Hope this is the right place to ask. I plan to purchase a GX460 in the next few weeks. Truck won't be a daily as I have other vehicles. I do plan to use it to tow the Supra to track events if I don't feel like driving Supra there. I'm new to SUV's and used to cars so forgive my ignorance .

I was looking at Base GX's how much of a difference does that make in regards to towing vs Luxury or Premium.

Acrad35751,

Going to do the same; where did you end up mounting the P3? There's not a lot of room forward of my knees.
Thanks,

Actually I don't have a trailer with e-brakes right now so haven't installed one yet myself. I've seen this console install and IIRC someone mounted in area to the right of steering wheel.

Regarding towing with GX460-as long as has towing package..towing hitch, .transmission cooler and heavy duty radiator, does not make any difference what model. I think my 2014 GX had all these items installed in US at import site. -in 3 yrs with 100k miles Trade in worth With only 5k yr…85k miles Trade worth

Actually for US models they all have the same radiator. AT air cooler available in the rest of the world but not US.

You can confirm if present by looking for it under the horns in front of grill driver side.

I use the tekonsha prodigy brake controller. Have used it in other cars as well. Plugs into the cigarette lighter, stows away when I'm not pulling the trailer.

Default Installed the Tekonsha P3

I was able to install the Tekonsha P3 the other day and I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I crimped all the connections, gave them all a firm yank to test them, and made a harness using the Tekonsha supplied harness combined with the harness found in our glovebox. There is one wire in the Lexus harness that is NOT used. Here's a picture, before I enclosed the whole thing in wire loom and made it pretty:

The black wire is a 10 gauge ground, attached to a big metal stud under the dash.
