I tried to call Borg Warner on Friday, but just went to voice mail.
So, the golden fluid that Toyota sells is not being used at my dealership for the TC, how many others around the country / world are not using the Toyota TC or equivalent ?
There is a huge difference in viscosity between the Toyota 75w fluid and a dealer bulk 75w-90 GEAR OIL that they are using.

Good thread here: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...sfer-case.html
I use the Redline in both my 14 T4R LE and 18 T4R LE supercharged. No whining noises or issues.

That's what I've been using on my 2014/2018 and my previous 2016 4Runner. No issues and as others have stated...local dealers will just use on-prem 75/90 gear oil and not think twice.

The viscosity of the two oils is noticeably different with the TC being fairly thin.

I used the golden fluid, the Toyota dealership where I take my truck on very rare occasions looked at me sideways when I asked about buying some, they didn't know it was a thing....They originally wanted $103 per can, but then were willing to drop it down to "cost" for $53 a can. I'd personally only use this but to each their own. In the front and rear diff's on both of our trucks I used Ravenol 75w85 gl5.

Can you guys please clarify the quantities needed?
Front Diff = 2 quarts? ( I plan on using Redline 75w85 GL-5)
Rear Diff = 3 quarts? ( I plan on using Redline 75w85 GL-5)
Transfer case = 2L of Original Toyota 75W TC fluid?
Front Diff = 2 quarts? ( I plan on using Redline 75w85 GL-5)
Rear Diff = 3 quarts? ( I plan on using Redline 75w85 GL-5)
Transfer case = 2L of Original Toyota 75W TC fluid?

Looking back at what I saw over two years ago when I did this service:
• Rear diff took 3 quarts but could just be overhead of fluid in pump and a little left in bottle.
• Front diff took a little over 1.5 quarts.
• One should be fine with 5 quart purchase
2 quart purchase of the TC fluid will be needed but you will be left with quite a bit of extra
Manual says:
Front Differential
Oil capacity 1.48 qt. (1.40 L, 1.23 Imp.qt.)
Rear Differential
Oil capacity 2.85 qt. (2.70 L, 2.38 Imp.qt.)
Transfer Case
Oil capacity 1.5 qt. (1.4 L, 1.2 Imp.qt.)

Manual says:
Front Differential
Oil capacity 1.48 qt. (1.40 L, 1.23 Imp.qt.)

Transfer Case

@Acrad Do you know if the factory service manual states to fill the rear diff to the bottom of the fill plug on level ground, like the 4Runner manual? Or is it required to refill with the exact amount listed in the owner manual?
