Default New 2017 GX460 owner!

New member here and first post!

Im a current CT200h owner and decided to pick up a 2017 premium GX460 for the wife after looking at MDX, XC90, 4runner, GLE, Sierra Denali, Yukon/tahoe. Past mercedes reliability is pretty good but I have a bad experience with past bmw reliability. Bmw forum guys always talking about bmw reliability has to do with maintenance but thats a crock of ***** considering new bmw has a maintenance plan included for 4 years 50k miles and my bmw was still breaking down. Or the german forum guys talking about how german cars have soul and Japanese cars are boring. Well i got rid of that bmw when it went on limp mode for the 4th time in 5 weeks with my kids in the car while on the freeway. It had other problems up untill i got rid of it. Ill take piece of mind/reliability over this supposedly "SOUL" anyday. Coming from prior bmw and mercedes suv's, im glad i picked up the GX460. If you compare like for like ootions, i believe only the MDX came out cheaper and other brands were more expensive. I needed a 3rd row since we're expecting a 3rd child on the way(cannot fit 3 car seat in a row unless its a full size truck/suv)

My first impressionof the GX is how quiet the ride is. The ride is awesome on smooth surfaces but it rides rough on rode imperfections, its a bof suv so im not concerned about it. I love the older 6 speed considering going up the Cajon pass. Imho, generally speaking from my experience, the newer 8/10 speed tranny when going up a grade always want to shifting back and fourth to the higher gears to get better mpgs but the older trannys stay at the lower gears when climbing a grade giving me instant power when i need to pass someone up a grade. The engine is plenty of power and it makes power effortlessly without trying too hard unlike the newer direct injection smaller displacement from the competition that makes more power but the engine has to work alot harder to produced all that power. I was never a fan of the spindle grill look to begin with but my wife was a fan of it since lexus introduced the look. I would say the spindle grill grew in me over the years. Other then that, we're happy with our purchase of the GX. I hope lexus continues with a newer GX line and keep it Bof.

Congrats and welcome!

Wow .9% is awesome... I got my wife's camry for 0%APR a couple of years ago...saved some serious money.
I don't really mind the new spindle grill but my wife doesn't like it at all. We saw a 2015 and 2013 at the dealer and she did not like it at all and prefer the 2013 style.

how seriously did you look at the 4Runner?

I'm in the market and am really torn between the GX460 and the 4Runner. I like them both a lot. I'd rather have the GX. Wife like the 4Runner but mainly because of the interior colors in the GX Premium.

Congrats! I was in a similar situation a few years back. I had a Mercedes GL350 (Diesel) and it broke down on the freeway 2x within a 5-day stretch, with 2 young kids both times. I said enough and went back to Lexus which I've always loved. Got sucked into the good fuel mileage with the diesel, but never am I buying a German car again (especially as an everyday car). Have loved my GX for 1.5 years now!

I also considered the 4Runner which was in my top 3. After test driving it, I found the interior to be more cramped and the ride was a lot rougher. The price was very similar as I would have bought a new 4Runner or a CPO GX that was about 2 years old. That being said, I went with the Lexus, but depending on what you're looking for, a 4Runner might fit you better.

I agree with that sentiment, people will complain about reliability and fan boys will swear up and down its due to neglect. It's usually the German brands that need this excuse.
