I saw this video earlier but didn't post along with the same concerns.

Default 2012 GX Premium rear shocks bottom out easily

I have a 2012 GX 460 Premium. And recently the rear suspension over speed bumps or dips will bottom out and hit the bump stops regularly. I do not see leaks from the shocks but can manually quite easily compress them. If the shocks do need to be replaced I can do it myself but the fact that they are computer controlled worries me if i unplug the old ones and plug in new ones. Any thoughts or any help with the replacement or what it might be would be greatly appreciated!

If you stick with the AVS setup on the rear it should just be plug and play.

- Are you seeing any oil leakage on the shocks themselves?

- Are you sure your rear bags (RAHC) system is working properly? While in park and set at low can you step out and visually see the rear of vehicle rise when you put on high?

Some aftermarket rear AVS shocks for $250/each which is 1/2 the cost of OEM which go for around $500/each.

IMO... these also work well with AVS equipped vehicles.

Great to know its just plug and play. No signs of oil leakage which is deceiving to me. The air bags, compressor and ride height control all work well. I am replacing the rear sway link bushings because they making noise. I did see those after market shocks and would definitely go with those not only if they half the price, but especially if stock doesn't clearly last very long. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt missing something.

If anyone has a video or diagrams about removing the shocks that would be very helpful.

thank you for responding

I was not bottoming our unless going through a significant bump, however, after adding the rear timbrens bottoming our is a lot softer. I feel like they do give your suspension additional support.

Hey Acrad35751. Just bought our first travel trailer (18ft teardrop) with 480# tongue weight. GVWR of trailer is 3,900#. I drive a 2013 Lexus GX 460 Premium model (~75,000 miles) with air suspension. We just came back from our maiden voyage and it felt like the trailer bounced/porpoised quite a bit, not to mention the up/down/up/down when you hitch. Very annoying. Anyway, yesterday and today I've been getting a lesson in air suspension and it seems it might be worth converting our Lexus to struts and springs. I think you mentioned that you tow. Does/did it make all the difference?

Just wondering how I would go about finding a kit (do I just google it?) and then finding a place to have them installed. I'd be grateful for any help. Thanks.

I have done the conversion on my GX470 and it was the best thing I did. I sourced everything on rockauto intended for a 4Runner. I had a mechanic pull out the airbags and install the springs for a 4Runner and I found the top spring rubber insert on EBay. The only modified part was a clamp to keep the bottom of the springs from shifting. If you search rear shock conversion you will see my posts. Hope this helps

Default Aftermarket Shocks?

Thinking ahead for when I need shocks and wondering if anyone has swapped out the adjustable, stock system for something better, aftermarket? The variable ride control settings are a joke (can't tell a difference) and the parts are super expensive. Any brands or setups that you guys are liking? Not looking for a lift or a lowering, would like to keep things kind of "medium"

thanks in advance

Since you want a similar ride, then just get the shocks from the base/Premium GX460.

Would I get dashboard lights about the adjustable suspension being unhooked? Was wondering if maybe something after market was better.
