2021 GX Premium owner here. Just took delivery this month November 2020. The GX is a August 2020 build. Here is the map data from my navigation maps info settings. Seems map is updated through June 2020.
I updated mine two years ago and many areas still don’t show on the map and they were built more than 5,6 years ago.
For the price of the update, you can just get a Grom vline2 for Waze and Google Map.
The one thing I like about OEM Nav is the upcoming exits info.
Agree. The split screen for upcoming exits and turns is super great, plus the smooth chime tone alert ahead of a turn. I actually like it just as much as apple maps or Google maps. It just feels leisurely, like everything else with the GX. Too OEM navigation map destination entry is slow and tedious.
I have a 2011 GX460, and the bluetooth interface has either developed a glitch, or is no longer able to connect fully with newer iPhones (mine is an XR). It connected correctly with my earlier model phone. The telephone function is connected, but when I try to play music through the Bluetooth setting, I see the "portable player not connected" message. When I try to connect, I get another error message "Bluetooth connection failed. Please verify the portable player settings".
If I uninstall and reinstall the phone using the code that is provided, I get right back to the same place, telephone works, music doesn't.
The Lexus website only offers updates for 2014 and newer models. When I inquired at a Lexus dealership, I was told to "check the Toyota website for updates", which is neither helpful nor true. The Toyota website only offers updates for Toyota and Scion models.
Has anyone here successfully updated their media firmware on a similar year model Lexus? A map update would be nice as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just installed the VLINE LEX6VL2 on my system, and man, does it make adifference. it gives you wired and wireless carplay, so no need to get map updates, use the phone! i'm using an iphone XS max, and it rocks. all carplay apps work flawless. highly recomended. touch screen works great
I had both of my IPhones (XR and 12 Pro Max) connected to my 2013 and out of the blue, they wouldn't connect. I unpaired and re-paired them and they have been working since. I figure it was an iPhone update issue.
I just bought a 2010 and had this same problem. I could connect my phone for calls but could not play music through the BT tab in audio. The solution is you need to separately register your phone (connect through Bluetooth) as an audio device. Use the following menu selections to register.
Setup>Audio>Bluetooth Audio Settings>Register
After I registered my phone (Note9), I no longer got the error you were seeing and was able to play directly from my phone apps to the Car (PocketCasts and Youtube Music).
I just tried this today on my Galaxy S20 5G and both phone and audio works over bluetooth now, just like it did on my S7. It doesn't sound as clear as wired through the aux port, but I like it.
I’m Reviving this thread to determine if after a year anything came about updating 2010-13 nav settings and map update. I live in the Boston area and work in the seaport where the roads seem to change from month to month.
I would consider this rumor but I thought I heard a Lexus dealer tech elsewhere say 2018 was last year for map updates on our units. I had mine updated back in 2017 but these were actually 2016 maps.

This is was what my dealer told me via email 6 months ago:
"The map update is about $400. They do not make one past 2018 for your GX unfortunately."
Not worth it.
