I have found it to be pretty competent in the ice and snow. Not too much experience on the slick stuff, as we got it in Feb. And it has the stock tires on it.
As for slow to accelerate, its not slow, just takes a lot of RPM to get the power. The older GX470 had the 4.7 ltr truck engine. Have a friend with a Tundra with that engine. it makes very competent usable power at low RPM, like 2000 RPM. The LS 4.6 ltr engine (I'm guessing here) has a shorter stroke, making it more friendly to high rev's. And thus, it makes its power at higher RPM. I find, if it is below ~2800 RPM, it's very sluggish. so my driving style has had to adjust accordingly. But it breathes well enough to like the higher RPM just fine. I find I have to really put my foot in it, and also keep the RPM up to make it move. that is new to me, as my previous cars had good low end torque. So driving with a light foot was normal, and also a lot more economical.

I have a 2014 GX460. Here are the things don't like
  • GPS routes on one way roads
  • GPS voice recognition doesn't work well
  • Waze does a better job of navigating around traffic.
  • Estimated time of arrival is off.
  • Does not support Android Auto or Apple Carplay
  • Lexus Enform App suite apps like Pandora dont work reliably even when I have a strong 4g signal.
  • Cannot open rear door when my bike rack is hitch mounted - not enough clearance even without bikes on the rack
  • No usb or power in the center console
  • No roof cross bars

Good point about it being more a modified car motor without the direct injection piece. I wonder how different the cams are to the LS 460?
