Default Swing gate strut

I did a search for this one, but didn't find anything directly related -
Has anyone else changed the gas strut on their 460 swing gate? Any idea of cost?
I know mine was made by Stabilus, but their website isn't showing anything for the GX, and I forgot to write down the actual part #.

Mine is rattling in the ball/socket something fierce.
I removed it just for some sanity....

Thank you! Super helpful.
It's definitely rattling around inside of part #6 on that diagram. I can shake it and hear it, and since it's been disconnected, the vehicle is quiet.
I'm just not sure a, how to separate #5 from #6. b, would replacing just # 5 completely fix the issue. I wonder if something wore out in side the ball/socket. Anyone think some grease or something would help?

Guess if I can figure out how to separate 5 from 6, I'll start with the least expensive part first.

I'll try to take a look at mine tomorrow... the FSM isn't much help in this case. Only thing I can find are torque specs in the manuals.

Pretty cool upgrade. No locking option if needed.

Add this and now you have a Luxury rear gate.

So are the bolts that hold 6 tightened down? Usually these types of struts just pop straight off or pull the clip out with a screwdriver like in this video around 1 minute mark.

tecman: 1st video wouldn't work for me... I use the door in some half opened positions sometimes. I wonder how strong that strut is in a hill position?

Second one is interesting to me... looks like they need a North American distributor though... there is a 2 unit version on eBay. One would probably be in for around $450.

^^ Yeah, I sometimes just open the gate half way. I had factory soft close on a 94 Acura Legend coupe with big doors. Pretty cool feature.

Didn't those early Acura Legends have like LS 400 levels of engineering and reliability?

Thanks, Guys

Yup - bolts were definitely tight, and the little plastic pin was in as well.
I have not heard it since I removed it, so pretty sure that's where it was coming from.

I'll have to consider the non-locking ones as well. I'm sometimes loading/unloading on some pretty steep hills in the woods so may want to stick with locking.
Nice to have options though!

Thanks again

I had a 1987 Legend coupe and sold it to a shop that was going to repair the water pump that went out at 220+k and sell it. Great car bought at 120k I think.
Bought the 1994 Legend coupe with about 120k and had to replace the AC compressor and then had an engine problem. I don't recall specifics. Spent $5000 for a junk yard engine and sold the car around 220k miles to get the MDX for more room to work out of.
Got plenty of speeding tickets in both coupes
