The latch has gone bad for a few people here.

Default Rear door handle does not release - unable to close rear door

I have a 2011 Lexus GX460. The rear door handle gets "stuck" in what I am going to call the "open" position, preventing the door from closing.

I use a screw driver and press on the inner part of the handle which releases the handle. I push the door close so the latch catches.

I do not see any way on how to get to the inner workings of the door to lube the handle. Appreciate the insight of this group. Thanks!

moved here by a forum moderator. Common practice and not always stated by the mod.

Mine does that on the rear door (cargo area, swing door), I just press the inner part of the handle back into position like you do (but with my fingers). I think it's from dust in my case, as it started to do it right after driving 50 or so miles of dusty unpaved roads. Not sure what I'll do about it at this time, may just take the rear door inner panel off to get access to the handle and clean the area (I haven't been in there so don't know the procedure).

I had a same problem in my 2013 with 60K miles.
I had to replace the door actuator switch.
Dealer said it is common problem for GX.

When I bought my 2013 a few weeks ago, this was an issue. I was just pushing straight back in with my fingers to put the latch back in "closed" position, which worked OK, but was a hassle (but you shouldn't have to use a screwdriver - unless it's a different issue). Last week I injected a little spray oil into the small openings by the handle and into the small mechanism opening by the interior door latch, and worked it back and forth. Seems to be working fine now. Hope this helps. I'm sure a new latch is the answer, but this could get you buy for now.
