Looking at part from an eBay add I wonder if that yellow button is a release of some kind. I'd also like to see what it would take to integrate an interior release latch or even use an electrical solenoid and button to open from inside if needed.

Got it open... locks work fine. I stuck my hand in opposite with my Palm facing the car and was able to push the handle release "open". I will have to pull parts diagram up, but it does seem that a return spring is broken or there is grime in it to prevent it from working properly.

Do you think any of these areas need to be adjusted?

I had this on mine. First I used a panel pull tool to get the handle back to where I could pull it again. Then I used some liquid wrench silicone spray above and below the handle, spraying into the gaps. Also on the latch mechanism, and in those gaps as well. No problem since.

I tried spraying liquid wrench in every opening or crack near the handle and besides putting a nice waterproof coating the handle still sticks. I can open it everytime by using my fingertips to pull the handle to the right position to open. My next step is to take off the inside panel and see if it’s a spring that returns the handle to position. It’s def not the lock actuator as it’s locks/unlocks fine.

I looked up the 2 parts that make up the handle mechanism. One is the handle itself $80 and the other is the cable that attaches to the handle and that is $25. I would buy either or both but I’m really not sure what causes the handle to stop returning to position. My guess is the handle assembly has a spring. Any ideas?

In my case, I had to move the handle a few times, open and shut the door a few times, and then let the spray soak in. Took about 5 mins total until it worked well again.

I did, it seems to be loosening up but the handle still gets stuck mid travel and never fully returns. I’ll try another round using PB Blaster this time.

I had a similar problem on my IS (door handle). I used a penetrating cleaning oil like WD-40 and a high pressure air hose (90 psi) with a nozzle and sprayed and blew multiple times. Eventually, you will notice that you will have a full range of movement. I then lubricated with a light oil. Hope this helps.
All I did was spray WD40 generously on the insides of the handle and give it 20 mins - all good now

Not sure how serviceable this part is. You could try spraying some silicon spray on areas of strut that slides inside assembly.
