Good idea.
I took the strike plate off and readjusted it. Seems to be silent now.
Thanks!

My rattle turned out to be a plastic fastener than fell out which was keeping the thin metal support for the rear bumper fascia to the underside of the frame.
With the fastener gone, the metal support was tapping the frame causing a rattle sound. Installed a new plastic fastener and she's silent now.

Also if you live in a rust belt area, the exhaust heat shields are prone to rot, become loose once there's no material left for the nut hold against and then rattling commences...

So ...I made this account just to say thanks for this. I've had this intermittent clunking on my new GX (barely a year old) for MONTHS, and it's been driving me insane. I tried tightening the jack (which was indeed loose), tying the tire chain (which did flop about and rattle), and various other things, but no luck in killing that occasional clunking sound. Dealer did their best and tightened the trunk shock, adjusted the striker bolt and other stuff, but no luck. And then, just as I was loosing hope, I saw this post. I then looked up under the rear bumper and, lo and behold, the center clip holding the bottom of the bumper to (what I assume is) the metal bracket you were referring to ...was missing! I could push up a bit on the bumper and there was the noise! I tried putting a little furniture felt pad between the bumper and the hole for the clip and, like witchcraft, the sound is gone! It was at this point it clicked in my head: a while ago I got rear ended. It was pretty mild, but the rear bumper did get a small crack on it. I figure when they put it back after fixing it at the dealer, they must've forgotten that clip. Anyhow ...thanks!
