2011 GX460 74,500 miles

My Lexus hasn't been drivable for 14 months. Just before the scheduled airbag repair, several engine lights came on when I started the engine. It had to be towed.
Now remember, this vehicle has not been driven in 14 months (only small startups to keep the fluids circulating - more to this in a future post).
The engine lights issue was a Lexus known issue. The cost of repair was $1,600.
Now, they are telling me that I have a "substantial" oil leak. When I asked how could the parking spot not have oil stains all over from a "substantial oil leak", the reply was that the position of the pan would have captured the oil........really??? A substantial oil leak would have oil everywhere in 14 months in the same spot or an engine that was void of oil.

 

I do know on my LS from DIY'ing, the bottom apron would likely collect any leaked fluids. The a/c evap has tubes running through in order for the condensate to reach the pavement...

Ask them to show you where is it leaking exactly. If it was substantial you would see drops underneath the truck. If it is leaking into the spark plug wells you may not see anything unless you directly check..

BTW: Did they perform the secondary air pump repair under warranty?

 

I don't know of a secondary air pump under warranty. I'll ask though.

I noticed a gasoline smell while loading groceries about three hours ago, didn’t pay much attention and drove about 10 miles home. Once parked on the driveway, the gasoline smell is so strong when I passed the front of my GX. I looked underneath and gasoline is leaking. Has anyone experienced this on their GX. Hubby said to have it towed to the dealership which I intend to do tomorrow. This is my second GX460 in two years and didn’t have an issue with the first one at 22,000 miles when I turned it in and got the 2017 with captains chair. I’m not happy with this 2017, my husband doesn’t even want to drive it. It feels so stiff compared to my 2016 GX460. Will have a long talk with my sales guy😞

 

Oil leak from bottom of engine, I own 1996 Lexus LS400 with 188K miles can someone suggest an easiest way to locate the leakage please?

 

Apply a de-greasing product (follow instructions based on product) well beyond the suspect area. I use a product called "S100" ... is excellent at removing heavy contaminants without the use of corrosive agents. Then pressure wash using warm water ... obviously more effective than cold water.

Once clean, COMPLETELY DRY using a compressed air gun (do not dry by running the engine ... this will only re-contaminate the cleaned area).

Next, spray a thick and even coat of "Gold Bond Foot Powder Spray" over the suspect area ... this will coat all surfaces "jet white" that will then turn dark at the slightest sign of liquid ... oil, coolant, brake fluid ... etc. Run the engine with good lighting, and wait for the leak to reveal itself ... works like magic every time ... even to pin point minor weeping.
