Get a teepee.
(Just kidding... that twernt nice, I apologize but hope you see the humor intended.
)
We camped for 25 years and ended up with a Freedom Express 320BHDS (bunk house). That was probably the last 5-6 years of camping. My F-150 did fine, and then after selling the 320BHDS, I had to have my tranny rebuilt.
All weights were taken into consideration.
Me personally? Next time I'd rent a truck from Home Depot or Lowes for the weekend and put the strain on it!
Or alternatively, ask yourself, "Do I want to run the risk of damaging my GX which I love dearly?"

We've been towing a Lance 1985 with our 2015 GX 460 for about a year now and is working well for our family of 4. It's an easy tow, but definitely running up against the capacity of the GX. That trailer has a GVWR of 5600lbs and a tongue weight (measured with a sherline scale) of 580lbs. We've had the transmission checked a couple times by Lexus with no causes for concerns. You're on the right path by considering all the weights. I would not go above a 6000 lbs. GVWR trailer with the GX460.

I have no experience towing with the GX but have plenty of experience towing RV's and other trailers. One thing to consider when buying an RV, especially your first, is that you will likely be towing at or near the RV's capacity. Many RV'ers are constantly battling to stay below their RV's GVWR. Many tow them over their GVWR, especially the toy haulers. Once they load it up for camping and take it across the scales, they get a big surprise. RV dealers are notorious for stating that your tow vehicle will handle the RV he is selling. It's an ongoing topic on most RV forums.

I'm looking at purchasing a 2020 FOREST RIVER FLAGSTAFF MICRO LITE 25BRDS. Specs are RV CLASS Travel Trailer LENGTH 25.92' DRY WEIGHT 5,300 lbs SLEEPS 8 SLIDE OUTS 1. Will my GX handle it?

If possible don’t chose camp sights in steep terrain. That would put a tremendous amount of stress on the drivetrain if your pushing the max capacity of the vehicle.
Limit your weight of the trailer if you have to head up mountain passes. Fill up with water when you get to the camp ground. Also pump out before heading down the hill. Get a good trailer brake controller & leveling hitch setup.

Keep in mind listed dry weight is usually before many interior fittings like fridge, heater, dinette tables, etc etc. Without looking at that trailer I wouldn’t be surprised if its over 6k on delivery. Add your dishes, beer, water, and you’re well over weight, especially considering the max tow rating assumes a basically empty tow vehicle
i like at least a 20-30% buffer in tow rating, especially with a travel trailer that catches the wind. Boats are easier on the car but a big brick is harder to drag. Plus i always have a bunch of people dogs and kayaks on the car.

Personally I wouldn't. If you've ever towed at or near capacity it's really no fun and can be very dangerous. I'd be looking at something with an 8K towing rating to pull that.

I'd pass attempting that. If you do ensure the tongue weight isn't exceeded, you have an auxiliary transmission cooler installed (OEM or aftermarket) with fresh transmission fluid, fresh brake rotors and pads with a recent brake bleed/ flush, new E-rates tires, a reliable trailer brake controller and the stock airbags in good shape or add aftermarket airbags inside fresh stock coils.
Your gas mileage is gonna suck, but guessing you don't care about that. Take it slow and you should be ok....

I think it's an old RV sales trick to go by dry weight. I'd second nuclearn8 and exercise extreme caution. Better yet I would buy a dedicated diesel hd truck, used, specifically for the purpose of towing an RV. There are better tools for the task at hand...

I done a fair bit of towing RV’s in my time and in my opinion that might be a bit much for a GX. I’m not going to tell you it won’t tow it, but I feel you won’t be comfortable doing it. I’m concerned you might feel like the tail is wagging the dog. A short trip, say in Louisiana might be possible, but any towing in the mountains would be another thing completely. Your call of course, but I suggest you find a smaller RV or get a bigger truck. Good luck!

Hello, I recently installed this hitch on my 2016 Lexus GX460. I have already towed a large boat approx. 5000lbs with no issues. However, upon reading other posts on this site am now reconsidering? Any thoughts on if I am ok using this hitch?
