I just bought 4 5-qt jugs of Mobil1 EP 0W-20 and plan to change the oil in the next few weeks or so. I think any big names synthetic oil will do. Toyota/Lexus is using bulk oil from a big drum anyway.

Btw Walmart is having a rebate for Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Platinum if you can find the grade.

I can't find a source specifically for 2012, but I found this: "Most Lexus have the oil type printed on the oil cap - it will likely be 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30 or 10W-40." Unfortunately my son is driving my '14 GX460 at this moment - somewhere - so I can't look into this myself. Maybe give it a try.

From the manual:
Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used in your Lexus vehicle. Use Lexus approved “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” or equivalent to satisfy the following grade and viscosity.
Oil grade: ILSAC multigrade engine oil
Recommended viscosity: SAE 0W-20
SAE 0W-20 is the best choice for good fuel economy and good starting in cold weather. If SAE 0W-20 is not available, SAE 5W-20 oil may be used. However, it must be replaced with SAE 0W-20 at the next oil change.

The 0W portion of the oil viscosity rating indicates the characteristic of the oil which allows cold startability. Oils with a lower value before the W allow for easier starting of the engine in cold weather. The 20 in 0W-20 indicates the oil viscosity when the oil is at its operating temperature. An oil with a higher viscosity may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions.
I buy Mobil 1, and use a factory Lexus/Toyota filter.

Last time I thought I had a couple jugs of Mobil 0W-20, and after I had drained and changed filter, I realized I had mistakenly double bought mobil 5W-20, which is what our MDX takes. I plan to put 0W-20 in next time.

I noticed at my local Napa they had some unusual oil that is typically hard to find.

They had LiquiMoly which I use for a german car and Eneos which I have heard good thing about for Japanese engines.

Has anyone tried the Eneos for the GX?

side note, they also had Amsoil which I hadn’t seen at O’reilly or Autozone. Not sure if it is just some Napa stores that carry it but I thought it was cool.

I haven't used Eneos in my GX but I have heard high praise of it. It has a high moly count like the stock Mazda oil (Idemitsu) I use in my CX-5.
