Default The Car Care Nut on the Lexus GX

I have learned so much from this guy. He is a Toyota Master Diagnostic Tech with a wonderful YouTube channel. Anyway, here he gives his thoughts on the 2022 Lexus GX460.

What is he talking about? The '14+ grill most definitely compromised the off the lot off road capability of the GX. Approach goes from 28' to '21 and departure from '25 to '21. Plus both pre '14 and post 14 GX's have worse approach angles than the LC150 ('32)

Perhaps I’m biased since I have two of the but that was a great and thorough review. I’m really temped to go buy a 2022.

Here's a drinking game for you guys, everytime he says "Nice" take a sip of beer, and every time he says "Very Nice" take 2 sips!

When I saw this video, I couldn't help but see right through his bias. Haha. But you know, he's not wrong. I would have given the GX way more 'cons' than he did, but the 'pros' far, far outweigh the 'cons'.

Agree and I wish the latest GX had an updated but similar in size, 2010-2013 front bumper/grill style or latest Prado style rather than the whale-shark sized grill, which would be at home on a quad turbo-charged drift car sliding around Tsukuba circuit rather than on an all-road (snow/mud/gravel) and off-road driving 4x4. Another minor error in his otherwise good, but somewhat subjectively biased, review is he said it comes with leather (at 11:38) and 'super soft leather seats', I hope he doesn't believe his Black Line Edition has leather. I prefer the vinyl myself as the leather in my 2011 was not very durable (the collapsing seat bottom wing foam also was also a problem). I'm happy that he didn't say that the GX was based on the 4runner as other naive Youtubers have stated.

I believe that the 2010-2013s will be worth more than the 2014+ in the future as buyers of these aged vehicle will buy them four wheeling, though a bumper cut/mod/ metal bumper will increase approach angle on the 14+ models.

I watched that video and thought it was great. I am new to the GX but was glad to hear how much he liked it as a technician. I am going to ask my shop today about them before I go test drive again. Thanks for posting.

Just remember: high MPG = ultimate reliability tax

A plastic bumper wont matter at all.

I don't agree. I am an old school guy who keeps vehicles for 10 - 15 plus years. I traded in my 08 RX350 for a new 2022 GX460 and love this new truck. I like to hunt and occasionally go off road. I also will haul a trailer when needed. I like the quiet ride and the updated infotainment screen. Before that I used a Esso Road map for navigation. The naturally aspirated V8 provides enough power to get me down the road and I definitely like idea of driving one of the most dependable vehicles on the road today. The GX has more cargo space than my RX had which should make my yearly elk hunts out west a little roomier for me and my BIL. Being retired I don't drive that much so gas mileage is not as important as if I had a long commute to work every day. And why show a video that is almost 10 years old? This is my fourth Lexus and I I think they make good vehicles.

Agree with the get your GX dirty part, but he's wrong so often about so much in his videos. Air suspension...? No that's the KDSS.
I unsubbed to him a while back after watching him try to drive (he can't) and getting tired of his Pennsylvania/rustbelt perspective on everything.
YT probably suggested this one to me after all my other GX content watching, so I thought what the hell, I'll watch it.

At least there was no BROWNBROWNBROWNBROWN or other childish potty/sexual humor, but I just don't think he's entertaining anymore.

I agree with him. I have two fun cars in the garage so the boring GX works for me.

We have this preconceived notion that because it's a Lexus, we are paying extra as opposed to the one branded Toyota to the rest of the world, for essentially the same thing. Well, I know people in the Philippines who own Prados. They pay a heck of a lot more than we do AND some of their interior is total crap/cheap. They pay close to the equivalent of $90k for the diesel variant, for example.

As for it being boring... what did you expect from a vehicle that's reliable? Reliable and predictable is boring. I totally agree with him on that. My Glocks are the most boring pistols in my safe and all of them are in my EDC rotation for a reason.

Amen on comparing the GX to the Glock. Both very polarizing products.

Yup, it's true. Both owners and non-owners call Glocks boring. I own many pistols and I agree they're boring. Glocks also get a lot of people who "don't get why" people buy them. I love my CZs, Sigs, M&Ps, etc., but I only EDC my Glocks.
