Default Searching nationwide/purchase/transport to home

Looking for feedback/opinions:
Anyone done a nationwide search for a vehicle with specific specs you're looking for, then shopped the deals, purchase site unseen and had it transported to your location?
The same GX460 with the same specs will be the same car whether your purchase it 10 miles from home or 1000 miles from home and if you can find the car you want from 5 different dealers and you get a deal you can't refuse from one of them, why not purchase from them and pay the transport cost (assuming that cost doesn't ruin the deal)?
Is there something I'm not taking into consideration?
What's the disadvantage of purchasing this way?

are you shopping for a used car or brand new? if brand new, purchasing it unseen shouldn't be any issues but used car, I'd personally prefer to inspect the car in person before making any commitment even on certified lexus. Also pending your state tax rule, buying it out of state may actually cost more in the end with tax which you can't negotiate with the dealership when purchasing.

99% sure will be new (although I'd like a year or so old but lose that negotiation with the wife).
A new car is a commodity. If the same specs, it shouldn't matter if I purchase in Carolina or California. The only difference is the price (and the transport cost/tax) which of course you would have to evaluate as part of the total deal in buying out of state.
