Default Nail in tire, safe to drive?

I had a nail in my tire on the side tread are and patched it up. But the guy who patched it said that area doesn’t have any reenforcement and isn’t safe to drive. The patch has been holding up and I couldn’t see any further issue or damage.
Is the tire still safe to drive especially on long distant trips? I has about 50% tread now.

Also my rear are Lattitude Tour HP while the front are Tour and the treads are different, is there any concern?

Was the patch put on at a shop? I'm kinda surprised they put it on with the liability.

Looks fine to me from this pic if it's properly patched. Did you take any photos (better for both inside and outside) during patching or after it's patched?

Sorry it was plugged with the rubber worm not patched. At first he didn’t want to do it but I said go ahead I won’t sue you lol.
My wife said how the heck the nail went in that way and said I probably stuck it there so i can get new tires. Haha

That's right on the boundary. So close to the sidewall. To close to call. I think if I was going to travel more than 40 mph around town, id probably error on the safe side. I think border line.

That is soooo close to the tire wall, its not worth the risk. If you are going on the freeway and something happens, its not only you and your passenger, but other cars too!
From the angle at which it entered, I'd say it was vandalism.....the physics doesn't seem to support this happening as a result of driving over it.

It didn’t go very deep at all. After the plug, it has been holding up. I may run it a bit then replace.

Have you tried to contact the insurance company if you have comprehensive? If they think it's vandalism, replacement cost should be covered.

It’s good now. I probably will get new tires in the next couple of days since I will be making some trips up the mountain for skiing this year. Plus Costco is having the Michelin Defender LTX M/S for $794 out the door. I will try to see if America’s tires will match it.

Sell your set and get new tires I would not go out of town with this going through my head. Since you have 50% thread u should be able to get 200-250 for the set. I sold the ones came with my truck for 200$ and they were worn down and got all 4 matching new ones.

My wife had a nail in the sidewall on her ct200h (with run flats). Weird place to get one but the tire shop wouldn't patch it due to the stress on the sidewall in turns. New tire since she had 60% tread left on the remaining so that saved from having to replace all 4 due to a low tread level.

The insurance point is good. But would they just replace ine tire and you still have to pay deductible?
